What people don't know is that people in the music business get paid long before their CD or Album is released....

Perfect example:

Micheal Jordan...
He got paid more from Nike... or other sponsors than he did playing basketball..

Go figure right? Anyone crying about music business losing money. Just stop now.

Fine call me a criminal, i'll call you a tool. If I had extra money lying around I would by the album that I want. I mean its not like I dont like owning an original copy of something, case and booklet and all. But just because I dont have the cash doesn't mean I should be deprived of listening to the album. The artists, and huge production cooperation behind him wouldn't have gotten my money anyways. I'm not gonna lose sleep over it, and I'm sorry that you have such large moral obligations to coorperation that probably could care less about you.
Try telling that to a court of law... write me a letter from jail telling me how it went. :24:

You have NO RIGHT TO LISTEN TO MUSIC THAT ISN'T YOURS unless you are given permission to use it by the owner of the music. That's like me stealing a car and taking it for a joyride and saying "just because I don't have the money doesn't mean I should be deprived of driving the car." It's ridiculous.

Musicians aren't payed by sponsorships, lol. Try again. :)

And every musician I've ever heard of is paid directly based off of how much money they make for theiir publisher - i.e., they get a cut of every sale and every concert ticket.

It depends on who you ask that question too. If it's a person using illegal downing loading as a way to pay bills, they would say, no. They think that they are making a living. If you ask an artist who has worked hard and want monies and credit for his or her work, of course it's stealing. So, to answer your question is hard. Your question is a bit broad depending on your audience.

I don't understand... how does a person use illegal downloading as a way to pay bills?

You can't say that--there are all sorts of different deals. There may be some artists that assign their rights to royalties for a set fee, but in the end it all results in the artists making less money regardless of whether the artist is paid a royalty on each sale of a CD/song or not.

Of course it's stealing. You're stealing the band/group/artist's profit by downloading a song illegally. Same applies to movies, etc.

But let's face it, we all, well most of us, do it.

i think it absolutely is stealing!

ill admit i have downloaded my share of music and software

but i have made a solumn vow never to hack/scam a credit card purchase

i know theyre both illegal, but one seems to be a higher level of illegality

i also believe that much software is only expensive because they are aiming it at an audience that they know they can get the money from

for example pro tools is worth no where near $7000!!!

anyway ill stop blabbering

I download music. I'm not going to deny it. Personally i don't see it as wrong. I mean, the music industry is worth a lot, and the artists earn lots and lots. And plus, people do still buy music and pay for it. It's a financial thing with me too, i cant afford to buy every new album. Plus, there might be an album that i just want the one song off, so to pay £12 for one song is slightly ludicrous.

They sell cd's and dvds. So is the person buying it stealing it also?
If a Thief stole a painting and sold it to a collector, and that collector knew the painting was stolen, I think the collector would be guilty of a more minor offence, but I can't recall right now what the crime is called. Music is art in exactly the same way a painting is art. It's no different.

Situational ethics? I took your post and replaced the crime of piracy with another. Tell me what you think.

I wouldn't bother with a £12k car. Something that ugly isn't worth stealing.

the difference is that someone works hard to buy that car whereas the music industry is that rich it can afford to pay the likes of robbie williams £80m + royalties for a 4 album deal
