I am really good friends with one at college, he runs 5Ks and marathons, going to school to be a personal trainner. We talk all the time.

one should not be ashamed of their skin colour or race, but by the same token, neither should one be proud of it. How can you be proud of something that you have no control over? Furthermore, how can you be proud of something that is completely irrelevant to anything?
Surely our societies have progressed to a point where we realise that race and skin colour are little more than physical appearance. It's like me saying "I'm proud to have big feet", as if all people with big feet are some kind of group that you belong to.
When you say you're proud to be white, or you're proud to be black, you're basically saying "gee, I sure am glad I'm [insert skin colour] and not [insert other skin colour]." It should not matter what skin colour you are in the first place.

Sadly, African American people are JUST as racist as white. But saying that makes me feel racist. I have to work in a job that because I sound white, some of the african american women ASSUME that i am racist. That kindof makes me mad.

Its more of a class thing that spans across ethnicities. So, you really mean you're glad you're not poor, not black.

AEF, as usual, you've got it pretty much right. So often we tend to look at races and skin colour, when it's mostly so much deeper than that.
I take pride in my education, my career, and my accomplishments. I am participatory to the things I pride myself in. They've happened because of me.I can really side with this!
Honestly, I am proud of my heritage more than i am of my skin color... Besides im a very light skinned mexican so... color makes no difference to me.
I'm black and I think that it's ok to be proud of your skin color, but it's not ok to brag about it, or say that you're better than others because of it.
