Is it ok to be proud of your skin color?

Someone said in another thread that they were proud that they were white. Another retorted that they were racist. I don't necessarily think this is true...my argument is that your skin color is part of your identity. I think It IS ok to be proud of something which is a part of what makes you who you are. Being proud doesn't mean you necessarily brag about it or think you are better than anyone...you can be gracefully proud, right?

Also, I think society views it NOT ok for white people to be proud...but ok for blacks and other races to be proud of their race/color. If a white man wrote a song that said "Say it loud, I'm white and I'm proud" he would get a lot of heat from it. Yet blacks can use those lyrics, and it's ok.

There's nothing wrong with being proud of your skin color. I AM proud to be white. I'm proud to be white because my whole life I had to hear what white people did wrong to other races instead of what good they actually done for this country. My other reason is because I like to to say I'm proud to be white because I know sensitive race equality people like will question it and try to make me look down on my own race.

Why are you proud of your race? You didn't earn it, in any sense.

I take pride in my education, my career, and my accomplishments. I am participatory to the things I pride myself in. They've happened because of me.

Being white may be an asset or a handicap, but it's nothing more than a fact of life. A condition.

Well Im proud and happy to be white. I like my skin color. Why shouldnt I? Im proud of my roots and the other white folks I come from. I dont get this mentallity and truth be told will never get it that I should feel guilty for being white. Im sorry I just dont and it irritates me when people take that as racist. If you look at me and me being proud of my color and it disgusts you or makes you mad enough to assume Im a racist then the problem really isnt with me.

Everyone should find pride in there heritage and be comfortable and like there skin color. People should be proud of who they come from and there family history. White people shouldnt be an exception to this.

White people shouldnt be an exception to this.
Sadly, I think people usually expect this to be an exception. Because of the history with white people... we are not "allowed" to say we are proud to be white, because automatically someone throws the racist card. BS!

I agree. There's nothing wrong with being proud of your skin colour and by extension--->who you are. That is not to say that one should be racist and not be able to appreciate the diversity of one another, just that one ought to be proud of who you are and all that encompasses it. After all it is the diversity of all the races that add to the flavour.

If you are not proud of who you are your self esteem would be lacking and your own self-worth and growth would be diminished.

My .05 cents.
