What am i missing? Who said God is perfect? If he created us, then it's obvious he is far from perfect. And where do we get the concept of perfection from? Can anything actually be perfect? And who's to say what is good and what is bad - isn't it all subjective? And most importantly - Where's that confounded bridge?

Someone else said it free will-- you make the choices you do
God does things to test your faith, he will not do anything that you can not recover from if you trust in him to help you through. Everything happens for a reason, a greater purpose that we as human beings can not understand all the time.

I agree ... totally agree ...

if everything happens for a reason then that reason has to be part of god's plan

rape, incest, murder, the holocaust are then part of god's plan and happen because he came up with that plan and the reasons behind everything

How is free will involved when a 3 year old (a friend of mine's little boy) gets cancer? When the news gets broken to his parents on Christmas Eve? When it's such an aggressive cancer that where his heart was clear of cancer, a week later there was a 3cm tumour in it?

I bet he was asking for it, right?

I have nothing more to add

It's called free will...
i dunno why people never understand that, it's like they'd rather be robots with no individuality in a "perfect" world than being able to think and decide in a flawed world, and the only reason it's flawed is because just like with all freedom some always abuses it, like, say:

someone's down on their luck? straight broke, they can go attempt a robbery, maybe hurt some innocent people, or work their arse off which is nowhere near as easy, but is usually possible....

etc

Doesn't follow any more than saying that because ostriches can't fly then flight is impossible.

With your minds so closed off to creation there is very little explanation to be had there. My religion believes that all God created was good, and that bad things came about from perversion of what was good.(perversion isn't always sexual) Like Satan for example, we believe that it was out of jealousy that Lucifer turned away from God and tried to oppose him. God created Lucifer as sort of a top angel, well i'd better cut it short. Lucifer means morning star but Satan means enemy. The only reason Lucifer was able to be consumed by his jealousy was because he had traits of God to begin with. Exodus 20:5 says that God is a jealous god. This jealousy was more of a protective, caring jealousy, but Lucifer perverted it into the coveting type of jealousy we think of today. When he was banished to Earth began perverting all kinds of things rather than just character traits. The introduction of sin and evil led to hostility between creatures, they begain to kill and eat one another, the smallest forms began to become harmful rather than helpful and functions of the human body began to become less efficient as time progressed. Things don't work the way they used to. Meat was never meant to be eaten, things were never meant to die. Eating meat is not a sin but we eat it because of sin, just like dieing is not a sin but we die because of sin. Anything can go wrong now, such as an uncontrollable overproduction of healthy cells(cancer) or insulin resistance(diabetes). Bottom line is that God did not create bad things. The things God created became bad. (Im an SDA btw)

If you're referring to free will there, you should realize that the bad choices made by free will, more often than not, affect others in negative ways. We weren't saying that people are attacked beaten and raped because of the decisions they make. People are usually hurt by the decisions of others.

Yup, missed that line, sorry. Now it makes even less sense.

We have to eat (something not necessary before sin made it so) in order to stave off death (also something not necessary before sin made it so). So avoiding somenthing we do because of sin will cause pain, discomfort, and eventual participation in something else we do because of sin.

:willy_nilly: and that adds up to you???

i said we eat it because of sin, referring to meat, we don't need meat to survive we've just grown accustomed to eating it....you should really read things through carefully dude

I don't mean to be insulting. I've just never heard that line before.

So then we're back to the post you failed to read when berating me about not reading:

If eating meat is sinful, what about carnivores?

it's not a sin, but it was because of sin that we the change from being herbivores to omnivores was made, the only reason meat was not eaten before there was sin on earth was because in order for meat to be eaten there had to be death and since there was no sin there was no death yet, and if you were talking about animals we don't really condemn animals they've just adapted to the changes

My father died for absolutely no reason. Seriosly, they didn't find a reason. A 35 year old man, in perfect health, with 5 children, and a wife, relaxing on vacation; suddenly went into a coma and died 6 days later. No medical or spiritual explanation, I lost my faith.

God created Satan with full knowledge that he would "become evil". Therefore he created an evil thing. God also created the concepts of jealousy, hatred, greed and so on. You religious people don't seem to grasp that. You believe that god created EVERYTHING, so why don't you see that even corruption and perversion are things created? If god did not create something, or allow the circumstances to bring something about, IT WOULD NOT EXIST. Jealousy, hatred, lust and sins in general would not exist if god didn't want them to. EVERYTHING LITERALLY MEANS EVERYTHING.

lol productive jealousy? Jealousy no matter how you look at it is WEAKNESS. God cannot be weak or have silly human emotions or weakneses.

also, explain volcanoes, massive earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, famine, viruses, and disease. What use are these to be created by god but to only harm his creations?

I never said that God created everything, and yes i do believe that God created things that had the potential for corruption and perversion, because you can't truly love if you do not have your free will. Like i said before, when freedom is given there will be hose who abuse that freedom, but God didn't want to create a universe of beings who cannot feel...

Then i guess God has a weakness for his creation.

i already explained the whole perversion/corruption thing, please read carefully

lol you're so inconsistent.

If you're a Christian, YOU MUST BELIEVE god created everything. Its pretty important to the faith because nothing can exist outside of god's power or creation.

Let me ask you this: Why did god create humans in the first place? Does a perfect god NEED or WANT?
