You carry on about the truth, with the implication a universal truth exists Doombug, but you're a fool because you don't have the courage to acknowledge one doesn't exist.

Where did I ever claim the existence of a universal truth?

That's avoiding the question.

You know you don't seem like a stupid guy, but it gets old really fast trying to talk to someone who won't answer a direct question.

I'm genuinely interested in how you explain atheists who don't commit crimes if religion is all that holds people in check. If you don't want to answer then fine, but I'm not going to go off on a tangent of trying to prove the fact that, shock horror, some people aren't criminals.

I am just trying to understand where you got the idea. You must have assumed it.

I think the bible makes a good guide, as many written texts do. With Atheism you really don't have anything so pretty much anything can easily be rationalized.

Whenever you bang on about seeking the truth, and claim those with stances contrary to yours do not. In that, by default it is implied there is a right, or universal, truth. You've implied numerous times agnostics are agnostics because they don't acknowledge the truth. Which truth is that?

Oh so I "implied" it I get it.

So you are saying there is no such thing as truth?

I didn't see where you answered my question in that last post. It wasn't rhetorical. One can't ask new questions without addressing old ones.

Not on this forum. I have asked many questions that have gone unanswered so I am just returning the favor.

Ohh, but aren't you a seeker of truth? Quelle horreur, leaving a chance at asserting it out there to die...shame be upon you.

Yes I am looking for truth but you know what they say about casting pearls before swine and such. Besides I see by you asking a question you should know the answer to you are wanting to play the semantics game. Why not just go ahead and make your point, if you have one.

I'm not so much looking to make points, but gather information in order to better understand someone's motives and opinions for the sake of debate. You didn't offer any.

Excuses, excuses.....It looks more like you want to debate the meaning of words more than anything. Get a dictionary if you want the definition of truth.

There are, as surely you know, many definitions. I asked yours, and you're too fearful to answer. I don't blame you. You're obtuse; run along and swat with others.

Oh well then, why didn't you say so. I like this definition:

truth 1. A statement proven to be or accepted as true.

I've considered this! Joining a church regardless. I think it'd feel awkward for me though - I'm not a very good liar, so if anyone asked me about my faith, what could I say?

If there is a Unitarian Universalist church in your area then you should check it out. About a fourth of the members at my UU church are atheists and are open about it. People there are not concerned about your god belief. We are concerned with your character and how you treat others. Humanist values are taught. We take the best from all religions and leave the rest. And we proudly fly the GLBT rainbow flag. Although only a few members are gay.

I'll look it up and see if there's one in my area - I suspect it's unlikely, I'm not in a huge town and I think the majority of churches are the usual big types, but that sounds really interesting :)

There are a few cities in my state which might have some open churches, but I doubt my direct area does. I live in the middle of a very Polish and Italian American Big 3 families area, very religious, and I see more jeebus stickers on cars than license plates. When I move to Canada I look forward to branching out and seeking different groups. It's great you've found a place like that.

You might could find an organization called the People's Temple. They were started by a guy named Jim Jones who I believe claimed to be atheist. If they are still around and you join one don't drink the Kool Aid.....just sayin'
