have a read of this DA:
I just read it but I don't think it has as much to do with religion as it has to do with this:
"hatred of homosexuality"
"hatred of homosexuals"

"fear of gays and lesbians"
"a desire to discriminate against homosexuals"
"an attempt to discriminate against homosexuals"

The fourth and fifth options appear to be the dominant meanings among the general population. It places "homophobia" in the same class as "racism" and "sexism" where hatred, fear and discrimination are directed against persons of different races, and genders.

For many homophobes (persons who exhibit homophobia) these multiple meanings are not troublesome. An individual who hates homosexuality may well hate homosexuals as well, and probably discriminates against them. Their hatred is typically based on fear.

she should know that the only people watching those fucking pageants are middle aged women and gay men. what was she thinking??

What was the Perez Hilton thinking asking questions that can go either way, does he not know that people are entitled to their own opinion, no matter how "offensive" it can be:thumbup

Fear sounds plausible to me. But fear of what? Being called "luvvy darling" to death? I think the fear comes from what I said before, being uncomfortable with their own sexuality.

I wish I could add to this post but...I like gay guys, gay girls, undecideds, switches, bi, pan....
I like people. Gender really isn't a factor.
I tried DA but I couldn't think of anything:willy_nilly:

That makes a lot of sense. I guess that a lot of men have a problem with their own sexuality whereas most women don't. In a sense...

I think women are probably more likely to toy with the idea of being with another woman. Men don't do this. So as that areas not explored, it's a source of fear as it's not understood.

Hey it's all good. You just confirmed what my girlfriends have told me cuz they say just about the same thing. That they have no problems with any form of sexuality...

A lot of women toy with that idea. Most of the women I know have thought about it and shared those thoughts with other women. But if a guy was to share feelings of wanting to experiment then he would be bashed. And that's a shame...

yeah it is a shame. You've really got to feel sorry for young gay men. When I lived in Canada, the town I was in was pretty small, some 11,000 people, and a guy who went to school with my gf over there didn't come out til he'd gone off to uni because it just wasn't worth the beatings and abuse he'd have got in his home town. Real shame.

Canada is not 1/2 bad as most of other places. Gays are very accepted here.. Unless you are in a real redneck town.. :p

It's the same here in the US. I went to school with this 1 guy who just had gay mannerisms and he got beat up almost everyday. He had to switch schools. Teens go through a lot these days and even years ago before Aids came to every ones attention.

yeah it's pretty stupid. Anything different and you're leapt upon. The problem is, so many boys never grow up into men, they just stay the same.

I was in a redneck town.

Right but most Canadian Cities are extremely tolerating.. There are the few exceptions of violence but the courts do not take to lightly to those. The general population views people as people, not as gays separately.

We had the first Gay Marriage laws in North America..

it's the same anywhere, generally the bigger the city, the more tolerant people are: you have to be, there's too much diversity to hold too many grudges in a big town.

I honestly think it has a lot to do with the fact that men think they have to be macho and tough, and being gay means you're not a real man in their eyes. Though I think that a lot of the super homophobic guys out there are closet gays or bisexuals that are trying to hide it by overcompensating the other direction.
