when I got off zoloft a couple of years ago the withdrawls where a bitch, I had to slowly bump down my dosage. I would be going along and then all of the sudden it would be like someone hit me in the head with a brick.

Someone mentioned earlier about the side effects. Paxil made me loose all interest in sex. I didnt realize this for 2 months. I hadnt even masturbated the entire time I was on it. There was a nother one I took that made me hallucinate, that was not a fun one either. I have been on others that gave me no side effects tho so if one is messing you up there are options for other ones to take

it's not over the counter in the conventional sense, you need a perscription. if you're not chemically imbalanced then you're accepting the side effects of the medicine by saying you're chemically imbalanced. by all means, meds are a last resort and you should try everything in your power to cheer up with out them. but what are the doctors supposed to do? people come for help and at least appear they have serious problems and they have medication to help.

i actually agree allthough i am saying there should be tests and possibly even more help for the person who only believes theyre chemicaly imbalanced because that just means that its other areas because there are actual ways to tell.. agreed?

i've no idea what you just said.

you agree that if you're not chemically imbalanced but think you are to the point of medication, they should get the medication for going through all the trouble.

you think there should be tests and possibly more help for people who only think they're chemically imbalanced. what tests and what other areas?

well if they only believe thyere chemicaly imbalanced there has to be something else wrong with them hence the tests and the other areas.. and yes if you are chemicaly imblanced to the point of needing medication then go for it iguess i just wish it was addicticve or had negative sideaffects

Seems more and more people are suffering for depression these days, a lot more people seem to take time out of work because of it but I think it is because people now are weaker than they used to be.

Also because of all the stresses that todays society brings with children, work, money and debts/loans/mortgages. I think it is more to do with life today than a mental illness.

I kind of agree with that. Life years ago was a lot harder but also a lot more simple.

I didn't mean weaker as in not strong people, but in life now - things are a lot easier to get and people are not happy with what they have.

Back in the day !! people struggled on with what they had and if you didn't have the money you didn't buy it. But now if you want something you get a loan or re-mortgage or what ever to get what you want.

Society was a lot closer, people got on better and people treated each other with respect - which we don't have any more.

i have to tend to agree with the both of you guys but i think thats more political and in canada its soo easy to get a loan or mortgage honestly the government should take back a lot of what they privatised stop bitching and complaining about how much it costs to give free health care to people because they can easily afford it still (free after the 40$ deductable on each paycheck) and thats about it other than getting someone honest as the head that could change things for the better... but even if there is a super man like this as i grow up and think about things more and more i realized the saying absolute power corrupts absolutely is definately a truth... anyway im not a communist in case any one was wondering lol because that tends to be associated with free health care and more taxes ... some how :S.... but ya i havent decided on my politcal views completely but i believe in what ever is best for our times and the future of canada... i dont know about the rest of the world .. give me some imput im very interested

ps: high taxes or the ones we have now are not neccessarily a bad thing as long as they are used to benefit the whole country instead of the friends of all the major industry owners which are also friends and family of the parliament
