I think the side-effects. I mean, having a emotional problem is one thing, but popping pills that give you 28390237098237098237 more problems isnt worth it, in my mind.

it's important to have the option tho of seeking medication. even if the symptoms are worse than the actual illness, i'd like to say it's up to the person to decide.

i was reading the origional string/post w.e it is... and i think depression is more of a mixture.. a human condition people seem to never be completely content... and most people that are ...arent for very long... look at rich people... i mean like rich people that stay at home and count their money... thats why most of them have addictions and stuff because theyre bored and they think.. no one likes to think ... its too nerve racking soo they do what makes them stop thinking... and soo theyre not bored dont think and it takes away from them being depressed for how ever long their fix lasts for ... its not true in all cases but thats why most people get depressed.. they have it too good

that's completely possible. i hear sweden has the highest suicide rate and one of the most comfortable average life styles.

but there are genetic predispositions for it, and there is a chemical basis for depression.

This might seem silly, I don't know but I wonder if this is the case in Sweden because of the way they bring up there kids? I've known plenty of Swedish parents and its their culture to spoil their kids rotten and give them hardly any discipline. I wonder if when you are brought up like that you get deluded when you enter the real world and find its a bit of a bitch. Just a thought.:confused

your completely right i was just reading on and i see you guys were talking about it.. its very real but umm you mensioned some self help ways and ya there is medicine but i say try your best to struggle on and succeed with out drugs at all because you dont know the reprecussions of any drug until everyone has done through it/them.. also taking drugs to cure depression will just make you rely on them and thats no way to live man... finally i have to say that i think the fix to depression is being positive and highlighting the good in your self and life... even though it sounds panzi and dumb how else can you do it ?

Well I see medication as a short term temporary answer but not a long term one. They can help you in the short term to get off your arse and do things worthwhile to get you back on track but its what you do, not what you take which will help you long term.

Depression is a symptom of the disorder I have, not the problem itself...

But if you've ever met me when I'm not taking medication, it definitely isn't a pleasant sight. I'm all for the medication, in proper dosage and with therapy.

lol i agree it is short -term but i can turn in to being long-term through reliance on it ... lets put it this way..the majority of the human race is depressed some people dont even realize they are a smaller percentage of the majority are actually chemicaly imblanced and depressed i still dont believe medicine is an answer because with chemical depression it doesnt change the fact that people are lazy and basically everyone is lazy soo where is the promise there will actually be a major change anyway?
