A pastor with 50 members in his congregation should never have gotten this much press to begin with. Now he is an international media event and whether he burns the books or not, damage has been done.

I think the government (the local, state or federal) should step in and stop him. And before you guys jump on my back screaming that even this idiot has free speech, I want to remind you that your freedom of speech can be limited if that speech will cause harm to others (yelling fire in a crowded theater). The burning of Korans will be seen around the world and WILL incite violent protests where people WILL die. It WILL cause the deaths of innocent civilians and our young men and women in the military. So knowing this, doesn't the government have an obligation to step in and protect our troops? Or do we just sit back and say, "Fuck it, this guys free speech is more important than the lives it will cost." I mean, why can't I yell fire in a crowded theater? Isn't MY free speech more important than the injuries sustained/lives lost in the ensuing panic?

There are limitations to "free speech" I believe this goof has stepped over the line.

:24: So this guy will get our troops killed, but I distinctly remember you defending the wikileaks asshat. :24:

This guy is just as much of a blind lunatic as the terrorists, he's perverting his religion to protest them perverting their religion. But nobody has any right to stop him, provided he has the proper burn permits of course. Hopefully nobody will show up.

Yep, if you are opposed to it, dont watch it or read about it. Extremists force the west to listen with murder, burning a few meaningless books is a peaceful protest. For the Army to turn around and say "its going to put soldiers lives at risk" is bullshit, the taliban are killing them anyway, what are they going to do now? kill them a little bit more!
At least they can see the west isnt taking them lightly anymore. Im sure many dont agree with me, its just what I think ok...

And the west forces the rest of the world to listen with murder too. over 100,000 innocent Iraqis in very recent history for a start. Military bases all over the world. Nuclear weapons. What message is that spitting out?

It's definitely going to make things worse over there. Most Muslims don't care about the US either way, and certainly don't want war and death. But by burning those books, the extremists can then ship up public support.

What you have to remember is that the extremists aren't trying to destroy the US, they are trying to create Islamic states that run under Islamic law. By showing the US to be a Muslim hating country, those extremists gain support. But, as the word suggests, they are extremists, and in the minority amongst Muslims.

The correct way to handle this would have been a media black out. Starve the fire of oxygen instead of just fanning the flames.

Then I'm sure you'll also agree that this is a perfect example why a country needs 'secret police' :D

And Christians dropping a nuclear bomb or two on Japan in 1945 was a statement from the extremists too?

You cannot associate the actions of a few extremists on 9/11 with the entire muslim faith. And in no country in the Middle East is anyone free to behead anyone. Flag burning is fine, it's just a bit of cloth after all.

By burning the Qu'ran you're insulting every muslim, extreme or not.

right then.....let me elaborate on the nuclear bombs for starters

japan was beaten so it wasn't about them, but with the russian red army marching south through china something had to be done, the first bomb would have stopped them, the second had them retreating....dropping the bombs actually saved lives and stopped the war in asia,it might actually have convinced the russians to take berlin and advance no more in europe too

right, you say about insulting muslims,a few years ago there was a huge buddha carved into a mountainside in afghanistan, the indians offered to buy it,carve it out of the rock and take it back to india....it was covered in dynamite and blown up because it was 'ungodly'.....now then, with the population of india being huge how many indians do you think that one action offended?...millions is my guess..did they invade afghanistan or take military action?

the problem we have here is that the fanatics need educating, none realise that the christian god is the same god as the muslim god,and that the jesus who's a prophet to muslims is actually the jesus christ we all recognise...and that these mighty books were actually written by mortal men,not some sort of godly creations

sounds like fighting talk.

I'm sure it did, but that wasn't my point at all.

blowing up a Buddha is a little different than burning a Qu'ran. Buddhists wouldn't take insult at that anymore than they take insult at the millions of "buddha" bars all around the western world. The Buddhist faith is totally different to organised religions like Islam and Christianity, and doesn't suffer the same flaws. Buddhists are all about peace.

the problem we have here is that the fanatics need educating, none realise that the christian god is the same god as the muslim god,and that the jesus who's a prophet to muslims is actually the jesus christ we all recognise...and that these mighty books were actually written by mortal men,not some sort of godly creations

What we really need is for religion to move into the area of philosophy (which is all it is) and get people to realise that no one knows if there is or isn't a God, and what that God might be like.

I find it offensive that the West uses the IMF and World Bank to get countries it wants to dominate into unpayable debt thanks to corrupt leaders, and increases the poverty in those countries so we can get cheap goods and services from them.

I also find it offensive how the west can invade countries for no good reason, over throw democratically elected leaders and install brutal dictators, or give support to brutal dictators who were already in power:

Abacha, General Sani ----------------------------Nigeria
Amin, Idi ------------------------------------------Uganda
Banzer, Colonel Hugo ---------------------------Bolivia
Batista, Fulgencio --------------------------------Cuba
Bolkiah, Sir Hassanal ----------------------------Brunei
Botha, P.W. ---------------------------------------South Africa
Branco, General Humberto ---------------------Brazil
Cedras, Raoul -------------------------------------Haiti
Cerezo, Vinicio -----------------------------------Guatemala
Chiang Kai-Shek ---------------------------------Taiwan
Cordova, Roberto Suazo ------------------------Honduras
Christiani, Alfredo -------------------------------El Salvador
Diem, Ngo Dihn ---------------------------------Vietnam
Doe, General Samuel ----------------------------Liberia
Duvalier, Francois --------------------------------Haiti
Duvalier, Jean Claude-----------------------------Haiti
Fahd bin'Abdul-'Aziz, King ---------------------Saudi Arabia
Franco, General Francisco -----------------------Spain
Hitler, Adolf ---------------------------------------Germany
Hassan II-------------------------------------------Morocco
Marcos, Ferdinand -------------------------------Philippines
Martinez, General Maximiliano Hernandez ---El Salvador
Mobutu Sese Seko -------------------------------Zaire
Noriega, General Manuel ------------------------Panama
Ozal, Turgut --------------------------------------Turkey
Pahlevi, Shah Mohammed Reza ---------------Iran
Papadopoulos, George --------------------------Greece
Park Chung Hee ---------------------------------South Korea
Pinochet, General Augusto ---------------------Chile
Pol Pot---------------------------------------------Cambodia
Rabuka, General Sitiveni ------------------------Fiji
Montt, General Efrain Rios ---------------------Guatemala
Salassie, Halie ------------------------------------Ethiopia
Salazar, Antonio de Oliveira --------------------Portugal
Somoza, Anastasio Jr. --------------------------Nicaragua
Somoza, Anastasio, Sr. -------------------------Nicaragua
Smith, Ian ----------------------------------------Rhodesia
Stroessner, Alfredo -----------------------------Paraguay
Suharto, General ---------------------------------Indonesia
Trujillo, Rafael Leonidas -----------------------Dominican Republic
Videla, General Jorge Rafael ------------------Argentina

A few terrorists is nothing compared to what the west has done and is continuing to do around the globe.
