What?????????????????? Please back that statement up with facts please.

I actually know several 17-19 year olds that struggle to pay THEIR OWN hospital and doctor's bills for their children they had at a young age. hardly anyone helps them.

Teen pregnancy happens for a lot of reasons. But saying "hey kids, don't have sex!" is ludicrous notion to ask of all kids. No young kid ( at least most of them) is going to actually do that. What we need to do is introduce sex ed at an earlier age.

I hate to lower myself to your level, but show me your facts and I'll show you mine.

SO instead of making their futures look a bit brighter. You would rather have them kicked down in the dirt and made to feel as though its impossible to accomplish graduating with their class...In stead of working to help them finish where they should?

to me that means kicking them while they're down

Other options for finishing high school are offered. Grace mentioned online High Schools, which are getting very popular over here. A girl could also go get her GED. Those are two reasonable options for anyone in her position.

Lol, woman living in ghettos, (of any race), with 8 kids under the age of 18, by different fathers. No prospects of employment, no food in the house, YET the kids have 100.00 shoes on their feet and the mother is decked out to the nines with the same shit. Not a stereotype, it happens, and THOSE are the people I'm referring to as negatives to the system, NOT the fact that welfare exists in the first place.

I'm pretty sure those people didn't pay for their stuff through any legal means, least not welfare benefit. Don't see how you can blame the system and welfare for that!

Yes but if they are willing to do the work. They should get maternity leave and let them come back the same year once maternity leave is over. How is that unreasonable?

Where did I blame the system?

I clearly stated that I was not bashing the very Welfare system! I was discussing those who take advantage of it, in response to AEL's reference to tax dollars.

Don't twist it around, and I shouldn't have to repeat myself.

The welfare system is extremely abused here in the US. Same in Australia.

But she's right. There are a ton of women that have children to collect welfare checks here.

Got you! I think you'll find though that people who abuse the welfare system are far fewer than you imagine. Media is to blame a lot here, they love reports on people cheating benefits. It's so sad that because of this the vast majority of people on welfare unfairly get stereotyped as benefit cheats because of the actions of a few.

Re: Birth leave sought for girls: Soon-to-be-moms at High School ask for maternity le

Teens have access to state insurance, That will pay for their costs of the hospital. Wanna go at that? Go ahead....I was on state insurance...and Im an adult. Got a problem with me being on there. am I irrisponsible because i used tax payers money to take care of my bills?

Condoms are not 100% accurate. Anyone knows that. As far as abstinence goes. Times change...and no its not a god thing but we need to do what we can to stil make good futures for the generation to follow.

There are ways that a teen mom can keep up on school work while on maternity leave. OR ways they can make it up when they get back to school. Its why we work with them. TO help provide a better life for our future.

How do you plan on preventing teen pregnancies? Go ahead and try to tell any teen what to do. It wont work. All we can do is try to encourage them to do their best...and work harder to get to where they should be.

SO instead of making their futures look a bit brighter. You would rather have them kicked down in the dirt and made to feel as though its impossible to accomplish graduating with their class...In stead of working to help them finish where they should?

Actually, thank you for proving my point...you're an adult. You're using the system that was intended to be used by adults when times are tough and medical help is needed. The various states and their Health plans for kids were not designed for teen pregnancies, they were designed for children of all ages to prevent and combat disease and illness. It only covers the teen pregnancies because preganacy is considered a "medical condition". I have no cause to argue with that.

Also, you said you worked and your mother worked 2 jobs...that means she was paying into a system that was able to repay her when the time came.

Like I said earlier, I too was on welfare. Did I feel it due to me, yes in all honesty, if for no other reason then I had been paying into the system for well over a decade before needing it, for a short term. HAving a kid at 16,17 is not short term. It's a lifelong commitment. Why are we as a community paying to support this girl and her child? If she's working full time and still needs extra to pay for essentials, I have no problem with that. The sperm donor, if he's not actually living up to his fatherly duties, better be getting the bulk of that money taken out of his paycheck. They're still minors and need to finish high school you say? Ok, I agree...then as before, the new grandparents just found something they can spend their retirement nest egg on, huh?

Like I said before, if they are held responsible for all the work they missed in the interim, I would have no problem. But if they are exempt from those assignments, I think it unfairly disadvantages other students.

If you come here to DC. I can take you on a 30 minute drive which will convince you of what she's saying. It's common knowledge around here. And the media here doesn't report on this kind of stuff. They are too busy scaring the population and saying "Homeland Security" every 15 seconds.

Exactly, which is exactly how my sister finished high school due to her poor choice. Actually, her poor choices...she had her first 2 kids before she was 18.

Who's footing the bill for everything while they're on maternity leave?

It's sad, yes. But, I highly dougt it's not something that isn't a huge problem. We've had our own leaders mention this very abuse too many times for it to be something that is "not" there.

It is never said or defined as far as medical assistance that it was meant for adult pregnancies. I disagree with you on that big time. It is for all in need. Any age. What makes it different that it is an adult asking for medical coverage for pregnancy or a teen asking. Same thing in my opinion.

Also, you said you worked and your mother worked 2 jobs...that means she was paying into a system that was able to repay her when the time came.

And you say nothing wrong with my mother because she was paying back into the system....what about the tens who do that. Or do you just not want to give them a chance to?

You seem to be assuming that the teens who finish high school are also not working to support the kids (or pay back into the system too).

Like I said earlier, I too was on welfare. Did I feel it due to me, yes in all honesty, if for no other reason then I had been paying into the system for well over a decade before needing it, for a short term. Yes for anyone (teen or adult) having a kid it is a lifetime commitment. But giving them (teens) even more reason to finish school. Encouraging them to do it on time with their class....makes it that much more sure that it will not be lifetime with them depending on state money to make a living.

No one adult...or child is more entitled than the other to state help. To maternity leave. It doesnt matter age or race or anything like that. It is deserved in any cases

State ins. Or other ins. would work if youre talking about doctor bils

Exactly...at least someone seems to share the same viewpoint.
And no where did you say if she could catch up to her work then she should be able to graduate with her class. You stated before she should come back next year...or the summer. You said they should be punished.
