Okay Gling, you seem pretty switched on when it comes to Palin, do you know her thoughts on the Law of the Sea Treaty? I know that Lisa Murkowski, Alaskan Senator, has been trying to get the country to sign up to it. I think it's a bad idea because it will lead to conflict with Russia over an overlapping claim on an area of the Arctics resources.

By the way I wouldn't say I'm "switched on" just yet, more like very hopeful because I think both McCain and Obama are schmucks.

How so? Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Russia sell Alaska to the US for peanuts because they had no use for it all them years ago?

Yeah they are. I really wanted Guilliani to become president, then when he dropped out i went for Hillary. I despair for any American male of draft age if McCain gets in, which i think he will, so i guess i'm rooting for Obama by default.

Though on the other hand, i really think Putin and Medvedev have enough clout to stop McCain from going into Iran no matter how much he wants to.

oops busted :D

so why did you make the first comment then

It was just an off the cuff remark.

You know who else sold their land? The Navajo tribe sold Manhatten for 15 dollars. Manhatten is their moral property, because American knowingly conned them. The same is true of Alaska... which despite it's nickname "something-folley", it was purchased because the government realised it's resources were important for the countries development. Taking into consideration the vast amounts of gold and oil found there, 7.2 million (or 2 cents an acre) is just as bad as buying Manhatten for 15 dollars.

Why did you like Giuliani?

Mostly for his plans on the economy and other financial issues. He opposed redistribution amd didn't push any policies that hinderd the affluent. and he opposed the ban on gay marriage.

I also had the pleasure of meeting him when he was in London. He's a great guy, even if he does talk about 9/11 a lot. He also totally owned Ron Paul on this televised debate i was watching.

By the time i had arrived at Hillary, most of the other runners were already out of the race. It was a choice between Obama, McCain or Hillary. And as a foreigner, i'm really basing my judgement of them on fewer variables than a native.

I never really heard that Russia were conned seeing that the US wern't exactly a threat back then. Sure, they probably didn't know about the value of it then but that sounds more like an unlucky bussiness break on Russias part to me, not a deliberate attempt by the US to rip them off.

There is a little bit of "sellers remourse", i'll admit. But the reason i claim Alaska is their moral property isn't because i want the USA to give it back or anything like that. Alaska is the US's ticket to something like 40 billion bbl of oil equivalent in the Arctic, if they sign up to the law of the sea treaty (which allows a country to extend it's borders by 200 nautical miles, and claim any resources that fall into said borders). If the US does this, it will legally be able to lay claim to an area of the Arctic that Russia has already submitted a claim on.

I think as a gesture of goodwill, the USA should forget it, and just let Russia have the resources, since they got Alaska.

First of all America was not even in existence when this happened and second, it was the Dutch who bought it. Third, they paid the Canarsies and not the Navajo. Funny thing was it was the Wickquasgeck who lived there so they bought it from the wrong people.

Sounds reasonable but I cant see it happening. Dont think the US should be villified about it though, Russia would do the same if they still owned Alaska.

I meant Lenope not Navajo. And yeah, Miniut worked for the Dutch, that's not really important though, the important thing is that Native Americans have been conned out of their land. Just like Russia was conned out of Alaska.

He could have done better, he could have done worse. My only concern regarding her is that people might not want her to be the one thats one John McCain heart-attack away from the oval office. Besides that who really puts much weight in the VP running mate anyway?

Regarding Joe Biden I heard a great line 2 days ago from Huckabee. Basically he said choosing Joe Biden as your running mate is like going to Baskin Robbins and just getting vanilla.
