**I know that some of you on the board have kids with autism and I don't mean to be insensitive with this post

I hear SO much about kids with autism, our school raised 10'000$ for the autism fund in Utah, and it seems like 75% of the fundraisers I hear about are for autism.

But, what about the kids that are actually dieing of cancer in hospitals? At least the kids with autism get to live their lives... don't get me wrong, I think it's important that we research a cure for autism too, but don't you think illnesses that are actually causing children to be hospitalized or to die are more important?

Please don't kill me :)

I still think the lives of children dying in hospitals are more important then the money parents are spending on their kids in therapy. But that's just my opinion.

Why do you guys have to take everything so personally? I never said cancer was more important then autism, I suggested that autism wasn't more important then cancer. And they should be getting equal amounts of attention and fund raising.
Oh Im sorry where did you say it wasnt more important Im refraining from calling you ignorrant right now but I sure am thinking it

Cancer isn't more important than autism but autism is less important than cancer. I'll see you in a few week when I figure that one out.

And on a side note, when you have a child with autism, are friend of some one how does, or work with them you are going to take it personally.

If the parents are in the hospitals all the time with their dying children or at work paying for their hospital bills, how do you expect them to be out raising money for it? Ergo, all the money goes to autism, and cancer is kind of left out in the rain.
Billions are raised for Cancer, Autism is relatively a newcomer on the charity block. Plus the parents of children with Cancer furthermore have Ronald McDonald house to support them.

I never noticed much about Autism. I knew about it but never paid a lot of attention until it was discussed at OTz.

I think there is more awareness in general but I suspect Bri that you are more aware of the fundraisers for the same reason.

There is a ton of money that goes into cancer research so I don't think they are getting short changed.

I think your being a lot more rude then me right now. I shared my opinion, and you start calling me ignorant, stupid, etc. I am developing an opinion, and this was just my original stance. I am not trying to start a debate, just get a better opinion by asking a question. Your the ones starting to personally attack me...

Please quote the posts in which I have called you any names.

And on that note, I'm moving this to the debate section where it belongs.

I like it how everyone here doesn't even know that autism effects my life.

Every summer I spend 3 months with 5-10 kids with autism at my farm, teaching them FFA things. You know riding horses, showing animals, doing things that they normally wouldn't have been able to do if I hadn't been there as a volunteer.

I taught 5 autistic kids how to recite a 300 word creed last year.

Assumptions, assumptions...

You know, Abrianna..... for a 16 year old looking to join a group of adults here..... you sure are being juvenile about certain issues. Sometimes..... keeping thoughts to yourself is truly a sign of maturity...... particularly when you can see it is upsetting others.

What was your original intent and/or goal in starting this thread?

I think you knew when you started this thread that you would piss people off or else you wouldn't have put a disclaimer. People have opinions and when you ask a question, you are going to hear theirs. If you don't like what you're reading, just quit reading it. I think the people on this site that deal with autism daily would be more than willing to help any of us understand it better. But I think that by saying cancer is more important, you've insulted a lot of people and basically said their children aren't as important, and I can't blame anyone for taking offense to that.

As someone who volunteers there time to help children with Autism, I suggest you do some research on it to have a better understanding of what these children and their families go through daily...not just when they are out enjoying horses, farms and all else you have to offer.

Of course I take this personally. You have inferred that children with Autism don't deserve the same efforts as children with cancer, thus making my job unimportant.

To get a more well-rounded opinion. Before I was leaning against everyone giving so much attention to autism, I understand better.

But I think anyone would get defensive when people are so harsh about things.

Let me ask you a simple question... Have you ever donated money to save polar bears or to save the environment?

If you have, why? Why would you donate money to save polar bears when there are children dying of cancer?

You might have taken it that way, but I didn't mean it that way, I apologize. I was wondering why I was seeing autism getting so much attention, but didn't see anything for cancer anymore.

I don't just do it time to time, 8AM-12AM mondays-thursdays.

Cancer research has well established fund raising and does not need as much exposure because of the knowledge. Autism needs to be out there since there is not the same exposure and longevity in the medical world that cancer has.

8am-12pm is when you have them... they do have lives from 12pm-8am though, and that's what I suggest you get more information about.

I have donated to both, with time. Maybe not money, but I have donated time to the environment, and I have donated time to autism and cancer.

Both should be getting equal attention and donations.

Okay then I will. That was part of why I made this post. Doing research, understanding things better, etc. I didn't mean to start a fight.

You really are not very aware of things. Cancer gets way more money and attention to autism.
