Re: 92 yr. old WW11 vet kills home invader

Simple facts are that had he not been in the process of burglarizing this old man's house, he'd still be alive. You live by the sword.......

I haven't seen any mention of the three intruders being armed, much less presenting a firearm. The old saying 'Two wrongs do not make a right' comes to mind.

Re: 92 yr. old WW11 vet kills home invader

Here's my problem with all of this.

Let's say you have a cop friend having a few drinks with you one night and someone kicks the door in and comes in. The cop pulls his gun and points it right at the intruders chest.
Would he get into trouble if he just blasted him? Would he need to show that the intruder either had a gun or was coming after him? Or would it be acceptable to just gun him down for kicking in the door and coming in?

I have no problem with people who defend themselves with lethal force. I have a weapon for home defense and would not hesitate to use it if need be. But if someone kicks my door in and I confront them with my loaded weapon, I'm not just going to start blasting away because I can. I will either detain this person for the police to take care of them or I will drive him from my home. And if he advances on my I would fire... but I would never just gun someone down because they are in my house. That's murder

I haven't seen any mention of the three intruders being armed, much less presenting a firearm. The old saying 'Two wrongs do not make a right' comes to mind.

Pretty much

Like the 92 year old man could otherwise defend himself against 3 young men in their 20's in his home!

You all can talk whatever you want about it but in my house they will die. I ain't waiting to see how many or how big they are. He who hesitates ends up in the grave instead of pissing on it. And yes, I learned this lesson 30 years ago first hand. As I told the judge back then ,my only regret was not killing him.

There's no doubt that people being able to shoot intruders in their own homes has it's positives and negatives. Therefore, those who are all for it and those who are against it will never be happy with whatever system the law in America has on this subject.

Not that I don't appreciate having words put in my mouth, but...I did not say whether or not I agreed w/ the man's actions. I simply stated the cold hard truth...had he not been in the man's house unlawfully, he would not have been shot and killed by him.

I always heard 2 ways to piss off a man are to steal his woman or shoot him with a .22. Evidently the old man was a pretty good shot. The fact he had already been broke into twice this year resolved him to stop the break-ins.

Is that where the law stands in that particular state? Can you legally kill anyone who attempts to burgle you, or is it more around clear and present threat to life?

How did the other 2 guys get him out after he was shot? Why didn't the man shoot all 3 or call police right after he shot?

Evidently the law in Kentucky where this occured you are allowed to use deadly force to protect your property. Here they better be inside your home if you shoot a burglar.

Glad I live in the land of the free, not the land of the siege mentality.

Re: 92 yr. old WW11 vet kills home invader

I am glad i live where a 92 year old man does not have to be a victim inside his own home because someone was trespassing on his property. I am sure those 3 young men were not delivering cookies & milk and just wanting to visit with the old man.

And I'm sure that he had options other than to execute the first person who came through the door. We agree on the letter of the law, if the State of Kentucky permits such executions, then the burglars are damn fools. We disagree on the morality of his actions.

Re: 92 yr. old WW11 vet kills home invader

Here in PA the castle law was changed that I am fully within my rights to shoot someone who is on my property or in my house. But there is no way in hell I will ever shoot and kill someone just because they are on my property or in my house. There needs to be a threat to my life or my families for me to justify it.

How anyone can just shrug their shoulders and say, "So what, he's dead because I had a legal right to do so" is beyond me. And people still think that religious people have more morals than us atheists... yeah right

Law and morality aren't always the same thing. Which is a pity. You can pass bad laws, but there's no such thing as bad morality.

Not sure what religion has to do with it. I believe someone in their own home has a right not to be a victim. Did he use undo force I guess that was a choice he made. Someone who chooses to be a criminal deserves to be met with force sufficient stop him.

The point of bringing up religion was to point out the hypocrisy by those who throw their beliefs out in other discussions but conveniently keep quiet about it when talking about taking a life of another human. Yes, you.
I am tired of having morality thrown in my face by Christians when discussing religion vs atheism. It's a valid point and I wanted to make it.

and I love how you went from this
Already had his house broke into twice this year. He had every right to shoot the thug. Shame he did not shoot all 3.
to just saying has a right to not be a victim...

I don't believe I have ever said I was perfect. I do believe if the homeowner felt deadly force was necessary then I believe that is his right. Good to know no one else here ever makes an off the cuff comment.
