Selective Abortions?

so if you found out that your child had downsymdrome would you abort it?

Absolutely.

I take it you've never been around people with Down Syndrome. A blood test will tell you a baby has it but it won't tell you the potenial the child has. You could be killing a person who could live a fairly normal life with challenges, both health-wise and cognitively.

because it doesn't have rights until it's out of the mother.
Fetuses don't have rights. They aren't people yet.
We're not talking about life, we're talking about when people gain rights as independent beings

I'm going to quote something here. A rather important document, as I'm sure you'll agree.

Declaration of Independence of the United States of America said:
...all men are created equal...
It says created. Not born. Created. And a life is created when a sperm fertilizes an egg.

I really don't see the difference. Why does being in the womb make a baby less of a human being?
It's not less of a human being, but if you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the child is going to have a serious mental disability .. and you know for a fact that you A. don't have the financial means, or B. don't have them mental/physical means to properly care for the child .. why would you bring a child into a world where it's future and care is uncertain?

Sure you can give it up for adoption .. but those children usually end up in group homes and many are mistreated and uncared for .. not all .. but a lot.

Once you have the child you just have to deal with it, but if you could have spared it the grief of going through life not being able to care for itself, live on it's own, or from being a burden (this affects people with disabilities more than you will ever know) .. why wouldn't you?

I think it is rather cruel to force anyone to live just because YOU think it should. Thats as bad as keeping people ina vegetative state on life support for 20+ years because YOU don't want them to die. It's just selfish and ridiculous.

Are you nuts? People with disabilities live full lives. How dare you say they should be discarded.

some yes .. but not the type that mst suggest aborting for. The type where the children are born without fully formed cranial bones, severe chromosone deficiencies and such .. they do not lead full lives .. most don't even know what's going on around them.

How great can someone's life be, as an adult .. who can't walk, can't talk, and can't even go without a diaper .. because they can't control their bowels?

That doens't sound very full to me.
