Food Stamp issue

not trying to steer the subject in the wrong direction but Ive heard (where I work) one too many times these single moms who have already got a handful of kids talking about how they are needing to get pregnant again because their welfare check will be running out soon. I guess with having another baby their welfare is extended? That to me is flat out stealing and makes me furious like no other!

This is why I think that a woman on welfare should not be allowed to get pregnant and keep her welfare. There was a reason she was on welfare in the first place, she doesn't need to compound the situation. They should be required to have some sort of IUD implanted until they are off welfare. I know, sounds cruel, but come on, think about it.

read the links, they address that very subject.

Meh....that starts to get into privacy issues and the state being too authoritarian.

So either be forced to change your body, or not get the financial help you need?

Its not like I'm saying to donate a kidney or something, geez. Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. But lets qualify this, lets say if you already have 2.5 kids when you enter welfare.

Well, I just think its wrong for the government to pretty much force you to do something to your body against your will. And yes, it is forcing, because they have no other choice but to go on welfare sometimes.

Then the problem lies with the current welfare system, not the people.

I'd agree with half of this. What Amy is trying to get at is that these women see their kids as a source of income, rather than a financial responsibility. People are simply blind to the costs of properly raising a child. Our current welfare system is not designed to support a family like this.

Don't like people taking the piss but come on, that's heading dangerously close to Nazism!:willy_nilly:

Government acts in the "best interest of the child" all the time, against a parents wishes. This would be a measure in the best interest of the unborn child. Unless being raised in poverty is a good thing.

That wouldn't happen if the system didn't allow that, though.

Do you think the problem would be resolved by giving these people more or less money? Because those seem to be the only two options. It will always be difficult for one agency to regulate, no matter what resources they have at their disposal.
