Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all

Lets look at it this way.

You're a smart guy AEF. Most people here I'm sure think you'll do very well for yourself in life.

Let's fast forward to your mid-30's. You have a huge house (off the grid), a couple of cool cars (electric), too hot to touch wife, and a couple of all star kids. ... Life is good.

Now lets say the poor homeless people across the street want to live in your house. They won't hurt your wife or kids, they just want to hang out, eat your food, and watch your TV.

You have two choices. You can either let them hang out, and trash your place, or you can be called a bigot and a heartless bastard for sending them back out into the cold.

What say you?
I would be cool with helping them for a while, then I would find them a decent shelter and see about finding them some sort of job to better themselves.

And oh yeah, it ISNT the same thing. The metaphor is almost inane.

Everyone in the world knows the American flag. They know its not a symbol of oppression.

Boomer I never said anything about the American flag being a symbol of oppression.I was talking about the likes of the Union Jack and Tricolour in Northern Ireland,or the Spanish and Basque flags in Spain where the flag is a symbol of intollerance.

I agree with you that most people recognise that the American flag is not a sign of oppression however to people in many muslim countries it is seen in that light .Why else do you often see the images of these people burning the flag?Because it is a symbol to them of a country they see as an immoral money driven society that is the polar opposite of their religious beliefs.

You would be okay with a bunch of bums moving into your house?

What shelter could you possibly find for them that would be more decent than your bad ass house? They're not going to want to leave man.

You wouldn't **gasp** FORCE RELOCATE them would you?? :eek

I'll keep them in my basement as free labor, and then kill them off. One by one. :ninja

If you going with analogies... you might as well finish it

You could just put up a fence on the side of your property that faces the poor people so they can't get to your house... When people ask you why you want to build the fence, just tell them that you want to keep crooks and arsons out. If they ask you why you are only putting it on the side of your property that faces the poor people, just stick to your guns and tell them that it makes you safer from crooks/arsons. They may insist that a fence on only one side of your property (the side facing the poor people) looks biased and you are only targeting the poor, but don't cave into that argument, keep telling them it's to keep the crooks/arsons out, it's for your safety. Eventually they will understand that a 100 foot fence around a thousand foot property IS a good idea, you just have to stick to your guns.
