Because it is a symbol to them of a country they see as an immoral money driven society that is the polar opposite of their religious beliefs.
Really? Most of them don't even know what their religious beliefs are! Free thought isn't encouraged. They're led like sheep by their imams and shahs who tell them what the Quran says because most of them are illiterate. I only met one Muslim in Iraq, one, that knew the difference between Shias and Sunnis.

Oh don't even get me started on this one.

I know you've been there, but be prepaired to takes some serious heat from people who haven't been when you try to tell them this. :smiley24:

Yeah, I usually get a :eek followed by a . But damned if it ain't the truth.

And the one who could explain it was a Kurd who came to the US after the first Gulf War, earned a doctorate, and did translating work in Cali for several years before the new Iraq War started. He went over there with the first wave and hasn't came back to the States yet. Some crazy reason about wanting to help save his people from oppression or something. :smiley24:

Oh I know all too well the rant you can catch from this. I had a guy call me a liar over it. :24:

I should have known better than to argue with an avid CNN watcher though. He obviously knows more about the middle east than I do. :willy_nilly:

One point I've just thought of in this debate which I don't think has been raised yet. I don't see the point of forcing people to feel the greatest alligiance to the country they live in when it happens naturally over the course of time anyway. Here in Britain we had people from India, Pakistan, the W Indies ect move over here 50 odd years ago. Their offspring are now down to their 3rd generation or so and these people in general feel more British than the land they decended from. Hell, even our royal family decended from Germans!
