Obviously I agree that the rape was a horrible thing...BUT in a way I agree with Grin.

... drank alcohol and had unmarried sex in a country where this is forbidden, especially for women. She knew this, yet she deemed it a good idea to go to the police and report a crime which happened because because she was drunk. Did it not occur to her that the police would frown on her drinking and sexual activities?

I would never go into another country and not follow their laws there....

Your view is the only absolute idiotic thing here. There's a hundred different types of Islam, all of which believe different things. Just like there's a hundred branches of Christianity. Just because she's a Muslim doesn't mean she should expect to be raped with no accountability.

This is wrong, actually. All forms of drinking alcohol are forbidden to Muslims. Drinking alcohol is sinful in Islam and explicitly forbidden by God in Quran. If you want to drink alcohol, you can't call yourself Muslim, which is what this woman did.

Next time, make sure of your facts before you jump down my throat. I think you are confusing Hindus with Muslims.

Of course no woman should except to be raped with no accountability. Rape is ALWAYS wrong - there is no such thing as a 'deserved' rape or an 'innocent' rape. However, no woman who gets drunk enough to pass out in a toilet can reasonably expect to have positive things happen to her. Personal responsiblility comes into this, and she has shown none by openly
a) getting drunk in a Muslim country
b) having illegal sex
c) passing herself off as Muslim while engaging in these activities.

What she did can be compared to a robber who stole a bar of gold, and then showed up at the hospital (demanding treatment), because he dropped the gold on his foot. All this, while clutching the stolen gold.

Ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous.

Me neither. If you act like a fool you've got to face up to the responsibility. Horrible as that may seem.

Depending on how you interpret parts the Bible, it can be argued that alcohol is a sin. That's why a number of baptists don't drink. There are a few passages in proverbs about the taking of substances that hinder perception etc.
But be that as it may, that doesn't render every catholic at communion un-Christian.

You also speak as if Islam is still a dark ages religion. Of course there has been some evolution, just as there has in any religion. Especially with the spread of Islam to the free countries of the world, where traditions have collided.
Following on from this point, you have no right to say who is and who isn't a muslim. That's tantamount to bigotrous.

I agree with Zorak. I live in a highly Muslim area, have many Muslim friends and a lot of the younger Muslims (say in their late teens, early twenties) smoke, drink and have sex outside marriage. They are Muslim and follow the Muslim faith but they see things such as drinking and smoking as acceptable becuase they live in a Western country.

And there are different types of Islam. I can't remember the names but there is one which is a moderate version of Islam and another which is very very strict.

I'm going to discount your first paragraph completely, because it has nothing to do with any of this. We are dealing with an incident which took place in a county where Sharia law is enforced. Your second paragraph deals with 'relaxed' Muslim beliefs, which does exist but means nothing in a country where Sharia law is practiced. So, once again, I have to discount your argument.

I do not presume to say who is and who isn't a Muslim - I go by what Muslims say, and Muslims maintain that alcohol is forbidden by the Quran. Please feel free to take that up with them, not me.

I'm going to discount what you say because you seem to forget what you post before. Hence making it a fruitless endeavour.

If, however, you wish me to point out the exact places where you called her out as being a fake muslim, you have but to ask.

I lived a year of my life in a Muslim country, so no I do NOT have it confused with Hinduism. I've had classes on the religion, and I've had conversations with Muslims about Islam, so don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. The Quran is like EVERY single other religious text: it's all interpretive. Sure, some Suras say alcohol is forbidden. Some Suras also say you must wash your hands and face with clean dirt after being in the company of a woman. How can you possibly presume to say what makes someone a "true" Muslim? Pretty arrogant if you ask me.

And since you're the resident expert on Islam, perhaps you could interpret this for me, from Al Ma'Idah 93:

"There shall be no sin unto those who believe and do good works for what they may have consumed. So be mindful of your duty and do good works; and again: be mindful of your duty, and believe; and once again: be mindful of your duty, and do right. Allah loveth the good."

The only reason this is a fruitless endeavour is because you have failed to understand the real factors at play here.

For you, this is about a woman who shouldn't have been arrested following a rape.

For me, this about a woman who foolishly thought it would be OK to behave in a Western way while on holiday in an Islamic country, and when she ran into trouble she (idiotically) expected to be to treated in a fair and just way. It doesn't work that way in Muslim countries ...... so wake up, people!

The virtues on Islam, the religion of peace.. If they have their way, it's not going to be long before the same things will happen in the civilized world, especially Europe. (Apart from Switzerland, of course).

Of course, as stated, all Muslims aren't like this, but the vast majority has to be, considering the nuber of countries with Sharia law..

I'd be more interested in hearing you're rebuttal to dt3 first, and then against my points. Or at least defend your own. but since you're so insistant on losing your grip on the happenings in this topic, I will help you along.

You have bordered along being almost racist for a while. But you just crossed it. Congratulations.

Just proves how radical Islam is nuts

And yeah it is friggin radical if a woman gets raped and the guy gets off scott free.

She may well have been guilty of violating laws of the land but to let this guy off was absurd

The anlagy of a robber dropping a stolen gold bar is not apt. She did not ask to get raped. Some pig took advantage of her situation.

Once again, I do NOT presume to say what makes someone a 'true' Muslim. Muslims and the Quran determine that, not me. I do know that every devout Muslim I've ever been in contact with will tell you that ALCOHOL IS FORBIDDEN, which is what we're dealing with here. Sure, some Muslims drink and engage in sex, and that is nothing but the Muslim equivalent of a Christian Western woman getting married in white, inside a church. So quit this stupid argument.

And since you're the resident expert on Islam, perhaps you could interpret this for me, from Al Ma'Idah 93:

I am NOT the 'resident expert on Islam' on here, so I would not deign to attempt this. This bit of your argument reminds me of a Western bible basher throwing lines at me........ :thumbdown

Nope, not a bible basher, not a Muslim, not religious at all. My mistake for thinking you were the expert. I must have misunderstood when you said:

Sure sounds like you're trying to pass yourself off as an expert to me.

Oh, and secondly. I don't remember arguing for or against this woman ever with you, or anyone. My later input into this thread has been to counter you're ridiculous notions.

Once again you have succeeded in showing you have no idea what is going on here and keep track of the simplest debates.

LOLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! Grow up, Zorak. :24::24::24::24:

The only funny thing here is that you can't even tell that you've made a racist remark.

Actually that's not funny at all. :thumbdown

dt3, you DEFINITELY misunderstood what I was saying, if you think I was trying to pass myself off as an expert. Please do a Google search on Muslims and alcohol, and if you can find a site where it is says it is OK for Muslims to drink alcohol socially, then please get to back to me. I won't be holding my breath.

I showed you a quote from the Sura of Al Ma'Idah which shows in no uncertain terms that it's ok to drink alcohol. Of course there are other Suras that contradict it. Like I said before, EVERY holy text is completely subject to interpretation.

And once again, you resort to making snippy remarks when you're pushed into a corner. It's tiresome, and not worth any effort on my part. You are mean, and I don't respect that.
