Cremation

Torch my butt!

My dad wanted a Viking Ceremony, but the law doesn't allow it. I'm not sure what my neighbors would have thought about it either.... What the heck is going on on the lake???????? A Funeral Pyre!!!!!!!!!!!

Now he's in a jar. We've joked about sending him around to all our relatives he wasn't able to visit these past couple of years..... He gets a month w/a relative then they send him on......

I really don't care if I'm cremated, or buried in a plastic cup by the highway. How I spend my life is important, not how I spend death

There ya go! Well said!

AMEN Moonie! I totally agree, torch my butt!! :)

I wish they could have a great big bonfire with me for fuel, but I might reek! :24::24:

I can't think of anything more wasteful and distasteful than rotting in a box under the ground. :yuk

Incinerate me and use the ashes to fertilize a rose bush or cast me out off a cliff. I don't care. I don't want to hang around some poor family member's mantle.

"What's that box?"

"I have no idea, but we're stuck with her."

:24::24::24:

Use the money from the price of a funeral for a great party on me! :)

I don't get how people would want to get cremated. It seems so freaking evil to me to have your body burned up to ashes. I think that it's best to leave the body to decompose naturally. What do you think of cremation? Would you ever consider doing it?

Not only consider it, my wife and I have it in our wills, and we've been members of telephase for years. It's my choice for many reasons. Each to his own.

Have you thought about how embalming stops the natural rotting process of a dead body? What's the difference if you want to use cremation as an argument?

Burial = waste of valuable land which could be used to place a homeless shelter upon.... or all the wood , metal and human resources used to make it. Once again, you could use those materials to build a homeless shelter.

There's a lot of wasted fuel involved in a funeral. Trucks bring the casket to the funeral home, all the vehicles involved to get the folks to the grave site. The list is endless.

Burials should be against the law. It just makes sense.

I'm not for embalming either. I'm Muslim and in my religion ebalming is forbidden. A Muslim should be buried within 24 hours after death, if possible. We don't use coffins either, we just wrap the dead body in a shroud and bury it in earth. So I'm not really familiar with the other styles of funerals.
Even if that land was available, I doubt that it would be used for homeless shelters.
Did you know that you can have a funeral for a cremated person as well? Families may even bury the remains, so it's just like a regular burial except that it takes less space and is cheaper.

But anyway, in this thread I wasn't arguing which is better, I just asked for opinions.

I'm scared to be worm bait. And unfortunately it's really hard to get your body to be buried without pumping it full of chemicals and putting it in a metal box first.

SO in order to go the most natural way i want to be cremated and then buried.

As my husband would say, burying the body is nothing but a waste of good real estate.

I don't understand how you think it would be disrespecting the body. I guess you're not an organ donor then? I mean tearing organs away from a dead person to give them to someone else so they can live....blasphemy!!!

I think respect of the body is all relative. I mean, if the person before they died wanted to be cremated, it would be more disrespectful to bury the body.Ideally, I'd like to just me stuck in the incinerater when I die, like they do with stray animals that die. My body has no magical spirituality to me when I die and is just waste. I'd like it to be disposed off as cheaply and easily as possible so that my family have as little financial problems to deal with as possible. Memories are real and that's what matters.

I've had my burial wishes in place for years now. I'm all for getting cooked. If I get to have a few last drinks before I die, hopefully they'll see the flames from space.

For me as it was said before in this thread it's all about how you live your life....not how long you can rot in the ground. I believe the body is a vessel that houses the Spirit. When Spirit has hit the road it's time for a good-bye bar-b-que. :D
