That's the idiocy of most law. Why on earth wouldn't a government allow nature to take its course within health guidelines?? I could be wrong, but I've heard that embalming is required even if the plan is to cremate the body!

I'm pretty sure that if there was no foul play/autopsy and it is perfromed under a time frame you'll get a clean cremation. If in some cases family and friends need to make arrangements from afar to travel for the services there is an embalming.

But for a US burial I hadn't heard of non embalming. But I could be wrong on all fronts here.

After they take my usable organs I want to be cremated. And then I'd like to my ashes spread in the ocean. Don't want them to be sitting on a shelf as a knick-knack. *shudders*

i used to think i wanted them scattered, but now i think that would make me feel a little scattered....so i want them buried under a tree or something. and then i can be a apart of the tree....

Bury me whole & plant an apple tree over me, no embalming etc.

Green burials are becoming more common & I believe that there are some states in the US that allow them under certain circumstances. While you are alive your body uses up & retains a lot of materials that are very useful to other lifeforms such as plants, insects, worms, bacteria & in the long term to the mammals, reptiles & birds that feed on these, which ultimately leads back to us.

Burning your body releases all its energy at once & actually robs the Earth of this resource & at the same time may contribute to global warming (if you believe some questionable opinions). It definitely does not help the planet.

:( never thought of it that way. good point.

My grandmother is being cremated and made into gems for the family... I like the sentiment behind it and plan on doing the same thing... after I've donated all my valuable organs, giving my body to science, then i will be cremated and made into family heirlooms :)

i had thought of that, but what if i lost my mom's pieces or something?!

for sanitary purposes i guess. they better NOT embalm me!

I want to be strung up like a puppet and dangled in the graveyard before decomp starts

Not in my State, and I don't think any state requires it.

"Do with me as you wish. Just don't spend too much on the funeral."
That would be the gist of what I would tell them.

San Antonio, nice.

I'm leaving instructions to be buried in the cheapest casket that can be found, simple pine box if at all possible.

Money saved on burial will be used to fund the party celebrating whatever I manage to do in my life instead of the funeral to mourn my death... :thumbup

I don't think I want my body cremated afterall, it's more hazardous to the environment compared to being buried 6 feet under.

A decomposing body releases toxins into the air, not to mention, that eventually, we will run out of places to bury people...

If you don't get cremated, then prepare yourself for something worse. They drain all of your blood out and replace it with a chemical, superglue your lips shut, staple your jaw together so that it will not open again, and place sharp, plastic nodes underneath your eyelids to make it appear that your eyes have not sunk into your skull. Cremation is the way to go.

I dont agree with cremation either, I prefer being buried.

Cremation for me is definitely out, being burnt is something that I definitely would not want.
