The thing we have to remember too, is that this kid and his sisters were probably damn scared. It's a lot harder to make decisions like "well ya know this guy could just be a drunk, maybe I should find out" or " oh wait, this isn't the proper way to do this let me go barricade myself in the room etc" when you feel like your life is in serious danger.

The kid is only 14 too. When I was staying home alone at that age I would shit bricks at every little sound.

Please keep in mind, I am in no way trying to "monday morning quarterback" the boy, only point out that it is far easier to defend known area with limited entry points by the enemy than to shoot someone coming around the corner. That said, without knowing the layout of the home, perhaps the boy did take the best defensive position available, I honestly don't know. ANYTIME you shoot someone you run the risk of being in a court of law. Apparently the law didn't think this needed to be the case.

The boy did good in that he and his sister are still alive and one bad guy is dead. In a perfect world the boy wouldn't of killed anyone and the four intruders would of been apprehended and seen the error of their ways and would be on their way to becoming productive, law abiding citizens.

As mentioned, wouldn't lose no sleep if he would of gotten all four though.

and I'm in no way saying he shouldn't have defended himself and his sister. Its the attitudes that get me....some of the posts I have read (not just here) you make it sound as though its some sort of "military operation" I'm glad my home is my "castle" and not a "fort".
and hello? Stabbing a bully 12 times is "self defence" and "standing your ground":willy_nilly:

I'll bow out now, coz I know I shall never change my opinion when it comes to guns and the people that love them.

LMAO nice av joe!

Just for you guys to make you feel at home:D

You'll have to excuse me now, I have to go and bid on a Detonics combat master to add to my collection and then go spend 2 grand to build my customer 6.5 AR that will help me shoot out to a thousand meters which I'll never get to. After that I'm going to finish up my picture tutorial on how to instal a trigger assembly all the while having Brent tell me how many guns he has of each model.

%&*^%$ what the #$%& has Obama done now?!!!

Ah, another thread using one example to justify keeping guys while ignoring a proportionally much higher level of similar incidents which ended with an innocent getting killed. Good job.

A simple question for you...

Do you think it's ok for me to keep guns in my house for protection?

No, I don't believe in keeping guns in the same home as little kids.

Why? because some people are irresponsible with their guns? Does that mean I shouldn't have any either?
More kids are electrocuted to death in their home than those who are killed by guns, but that doesn't mean I'm going to have my electricity turned off.
Thousands of kids are killed each year in car accidents, but that doesn't mean I'm never going to go anywhere with the kids in the car again...

It's not a matter of whether you have guns or not, it has everything to do with whether you are a responsible parent.
I bought special outlets that prevent my children from getting electrocuted.
I make sure my kids are in car seats and I drive safer when they are with me.
And my guns aren't accessible to my children...

I live in the woods Peter. If there was ever an incident at my house, it will take the police an hour to get here. That's best case scenario. So are you saying that because their are bad parents out there, that I shouldn't have any guns?

Oh come on...you KNOW that ALL gun owners with kids are responsible and lock them away unloaded.;) (The guns, not the kids)

Quit being a sarcastic asshole

That's the gap between door and body on the entire length of the door for one safe. If you get past the other security measures and have the time and energy to use a plasma cutter on the safe, knock yourself out because there is no other way you're getting in:24:

EVERY single gun I own is locked and secured. Some guns however are VERY loaded.

A gun is to be respected, not feared.

Luckily that young man knew how to handle a firearm.

I can't speak for others, but this is where a majority of my weapons are housed. With the exception of one pistol, and a Mossberg 500 shotgun.

I can't lift that safe when it's empty, let alone full, so maybe I'm too relaxed, but I'm not worried about any accidents. The thing locks automatically when I shut it.

Cars, knives electricity etc werent oringinally invented or discovered TO KILL PEOPLE/THINGS...what other uses are there for a gun?

I always laugh at the "cars and knives kill far more people"....from the gun lovers

Plus...the 14y.o in this story got his hands on a loaded gun...and here...14 is still a kid.

Yes. You may well be a responsible gun owner, many people are not. Like you they don't have criminal records, are of good standing and hard workers. Please tell me how the law differenciates between you and them? Fact is, guns kept in homes end up injuring more innocent people than they do criminals. If the area you live in is so bad that there is a realistic chance that you're going to have your house broken into by people trying to kill or injure you, I suggest you move to another area, especially having little kids of your own to think about! That will protect them far more than keeping a gun in the house plus not having to grow up constantly living in fear.

Just remember, when it comes to gun safes, most of the time you really do get what you pay for.

Winchesters are good for keeping out kids and strung out meth heads, but 15 minutes and some very basic hand tools and that safe would not only be destroyed, but opened.

Interior door of a $900 safe.

Yeah, man. I know for sure. I'm not saying that it will never happen, but it's positioned in my garage in a way that even with my garage door open it would be impossible to see the safe without walking inside, and actually looking around. I have a giant blanket draped over it, and boxes stacked on top. A mild deterrent hopefully, but who knows.

Just watch out for that humidity in the garage if you haven't already.

I knew I married a good woman when at our first house I asked her where I could put a safe, and she said "why not the living room?":D
