The thing we have to remember too, is that this kid and his sisters were probably damn scared. It's a lot harder to make decisions like "well ya know this guy could just be a drunk, maybe I should find out" or " oh wait, this isn't the proper way to do this let me go barricade myself in the room etc" when you feel like your life is in serious danger.
The kid is only 14 too. When I was staying home alone at that age I would shit bricks at every little sound.
Please keep in mind, I am in no way trying to "monday morning quarterback" the boy, only point out that it is far easier to defend known area with limited entry points by the enemy than to shoot someone coming around the corner. That said, without knowing the layout of the home, perhaps the boy did take the best defensive position available, I honestly don't know. ANYTIME you shoot someone you run the risk of being in a court of law. Apparently the law didn't think this needed to be the case.
The boy did good in that he and his sister are still alive and one bad guy is dead. In a perfect world the boy wouldn't of killed anyone and the four intruders would of been apprehended and seen the error of their ways and would be on their way to becoming productive, law abiding citizens.
As mentioned, wouldn't lose no sleep if he would of gotten all four though.
