I do not see this board ever being totally politically correct. I know I certainly am not PC. I have some strong opinions and keep most of them to myself. Did you mean repercussions? I still see the OP for this thread as extremely shallow. As men we have no way of grasping certain things women deal with like periods & cramps & childbirth & after baby fat. I am okay without having those experiences.

Yes, repercussions...

No it doesn't, does it?

Hell, can you remember the thread about some fat guy on the bus and how since he took up two seats he should pay double?

you had no problem making fun of him...right?

So before you call anyone else shallow, maybe you can go reread that thread and compare all the people who made fun of that fat guy (who was a real person) to the ones who feigned fake outrage in this thread over someones opinion (on a non-existent person)

You're basing you argument on a "Fallacy of Ambiguity", conflation to be precise. Otherwise known as "apples to oranges".

The bus scenario is one of business and commercial consequences. If you purchase a bus or airline seat you are purchasing a temporary usage license for that seat- singular... SEAT. If you have some sort of reason that you are occupying more than one seat then the company is losing the potential revenue of that extra seat and should expect fair compensation. The fact that the man in question is obese is irrelevant. If he had a large suitcase and placed it in the adjoining seat he would still be expected to recompense the company for that space.

Is this a case of bias against the obese? No.
Was Fred's comment tasteless? Yes.

The statement that Dana raised was more stating that women that don't look like they've been pulled off the cover of SI should not wear a bikini in public.

Was it his opinion and, as such, his to share? Yes.
Should he have expected to be able to state his opinion and not be rewarded with a backlash? No.

All men over the age of 12 know that if you broach the subject of weight in a mixed setting you will hear about it and quite sharply. Women have been dealing with weight issues their entire lives. I do not know a single woman who is not concerned about her weight, for one reason or another. Having the courage to actually put on a swimsuit and venture out into public is one of the top "goals" for many dieting women, only to be confronted with people like Dana who think this is unacceptable.

For men, weight is not really an issue until legitimate health, legal and financial considerations come into play, such as in the case of the bus seat.

Sorry Tim, but comparing the two cases is not playing fair.

I can understand a little what Tim saying ... I was thin all my life and been made fun and no one care how i felt but if someone was a little over weight and been made fun everyone else thought it was wrong

and i hate when i hear people say real women have curves ..

and make this comment all the time like if you thin you not ..

I remember in another board someone said he does not date women that are over weight and almost everyone else ready to murder him
and people jump up and saying why saying all this for the real women and who want a lollipop a tooth pick or an anorexic

yes the people said that the same people that jump up and start defend some people by putting other group of women down and the thread turn a bashing of thin women once again ..

this happen all the time

example my sister in law she lost now a lot of weight but she was way too much over weight and if she didn't do anything soon will be a big problem to her health anyway i never even once made fun of her
yes i talk bad about her personality because she is the damn same as my mother in law but she made fun of me so many times about how i look and on my weight..

anyways what Dana said is wrong and he lost a lot of weight lately and he should know better not to make a comment like that

What Dana said may of been wrong, but what's even more atrocious is the fact that he (Dana) let a bunch of opinionated *&^#suckers run him off.

Hey, the guy admitted he made a mistake, and in reality the only mistake he made was speaking his opinion.
Perhaps a bonehead move on Dana's part considering all the women on this forum, but he tried to kiss up after the fact and IMO you should give him some slack.

Hey, does this mean I get more tokenz??:24:

How can his opinion be wrong?

Insensitive, idiotic or rude... Yeah, but not wrong...

Why is it that any topic that talks about women's weight, shape or appearance (especially when it comes to pregnancy weight) is automatically flamed? Opinions, likes and dislikes can't be discussed without the topic turning into all out war.
You can make fun of a fat guy, a skinny girl, a gay Mexican, crack whore or any other group... but mention a flabby girl in a bikini and have an entire forum jump down your throat...

He made a distasteful comment... he didn't rape a young boy.... :dunno
I'm just gonna quote this so all of the foul-mouthed, angry, whiners can read it.

All people are judgmental...unless they're sheep. Some choose not to speak their minds or not to post them, that's the only difference.

^^^^^ This 100%

Right or wrong Dana speaks his mind.... (although he should have kept it to himself)

Everybody hates someone.
Cold fact but true... I know people that hate dumb people, that much they believe dumb couples shouldn’t have kids, as through the genes of the parents the kids could only get to a limited amount of intellect. Crazy right?
I know someone that hates fat people... This person happens to be in the army and is very fit but he says from the age of 0-30 everyone should be fit and in shape and "living their life to the max" going on adventures and having fun... "Going out" "Making most of life instead of staying in on their ass" he says... After 30+ you can put your feet up relax and let the pounds add... according to him and the person that wrote dumb people shouldn't have kids these opinions would have make Dana post look innocent.
And obviously there are people who hate races... Black, white ect...
People that hate slags not me I’m all for slags :D
People that hate shy people.
People that hate smokers.
Young People that hate old people. Old people that hate young people.
People from England hating people from America :p
But personally most of this is bullshit, how can you hate someone from something they can’t prevent age, colour, location of birth and pregnancy pounds ect...

But most of us do hate something or someone... speaking on said subject can open up a can of worms.

I just find it funny that Dana has spent years on here getting super sensitive whenever someone says anything negative about a fat person and now that he's lost a few pounds he wants to all of a sudden start bashing anyone with an ounce of fat on them. He might have lost some weight but he's still far from Mr fitness. I think most people would rather see a woman in a bikini just after she's had a baby with a bit of a belly than Dana waddling down the beach in his shorts.
