My dad just mentioned that he would change our computes to Windows 7 if we wanted to, and I have a couple questions.

I don't want to lose any of my favorites, documents, or pictures, so all I have to do is save them in a flash drive right?

also, if windows aero glass is the default theme for Windows 7, will I get it if I still have Windows Vista Basic (for Windows Vista Home Premium)

when upgrading windows transfers everything over for you, and aero glass is the default for windows 7 already

okay I looked up the requirements for the aero glass...my computer doesn't have it

  • Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Enterprise (Aero is not available in Windows Vista Home Basic and Windows 7 Starter. The Aero interface in Windows 7 Home Basic doesn't have the transparent effects).
  • a 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 GB of system memory (512MB sometimes works)
  • a DirectX 9 compatible graphics processor with a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) driver, Pixel shader 2.0 in hardware, and a minimum of 128 MB of Video RAM
  • 32 bits per pixel
  • 40 GB hard drive with 15 GB free space
  • DVD-ROM Drive
  • Audio output and Internet access (preferably broadband)
don't you still need those requirements?

I bought a new laptop back in october that was eligible for a free win7 upgrade. .So yeah, I upgraded to 7. .I love it. Really it all comes down to what you pc is packing as to how well it performs. If you have an xp machine, then you should stick to xp.

I really like the sticky windows and shaking the windows to close all the open screens. I love how paint and wordpad have been overhauled, and I especially love the improved speed that 7 has.

I gotta be honest, I didn't mind Vista. The last two laptops I had ran it flawlessly, but they were made to run it unlike pc's that you upgrade to it.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and it was a great decision for me to upgrade, I love it. I came from Vista. I live the virtual XP mode, for the apps that don't run in Windows 7. It runs in the background and you can't even tell its running after you set it up.

I recommend installing from scratch rather then upgrading. You will have a more stable system that way.

I've had one sitting in the box since mid December. I'm hopeful, from everything I've read and seen. Just need a few quiet days to try out our older software on one.

Vista sucked. I got one machine about a year after it came out and that was all it took to solidify the decision to just stay with XP on our machines until something better came out:yuk
