So much better than Vista, but probably dual booting with Vista to see if there are any problems with any software, though they should all be ok

Most of us have tried the beta, but when Windows 7 is officially out on the shelves, will you pay for it and upgrade? I am particularly interested to see what XP users have to say.

EDIT: I think these are the prices:

  • Windows 7 Starter: $199
  • Windows 7 Home Premium: $259
  • Windows 7 Professional: $299
  • Windows 7 Ultimate: $319

I got the Windows 7 Home Premium for less than £50 on the discount offer that happened in July, though it will arrive in October, its release date

No. Well, not immediately at least, I'll probably wait until it they iron out the initial bugs, glitches, and security holes. Then see if I can afford to or not, before I install it on my Windows box.

I probably wont because it will erase all my information I have including my pics and my favorites
Actually if you use a 32bit upgrade up your system it will carry over ALL your settings including addons to the GUI such as TortoiseSVN... I have done it several times and an upgrade just does at it says but if you do a fresh install all your files will end up being carried over to a folder named "Windows.old".... ;) Cheers!

no.

use the tools for which they are good at, and slander/libel not those that do not lend themselves to be the tool you are not able to use for a particular task.

linux does not have the same potential for gaming (as stacked against windows)... so should we shit on it? fuck no. linux is pretty sweet for what it's good at .. ie: serving files for websites, and many other tasks.

some tasks are able to be performed on many different types of systems, osx, linux, windows, et cetera, which in the end, boils down to personal preference/shop requirements.

I'm upgrading from Vista. Simply because I have Vista. And because I'm a student, I get the Home Premium version for an entire 30 dollars. So, that's why.

I can say from testing windows 7 that unlike many of its previous versions where microsoft's idea of enhancing the GUI was merely making it look more "purrrty" for the eyes is no longer true for this one. Windows 7 actually has a great user interface navigation improvement mostly in the file management that I like. I really believe its desingns were copied from Linux (GNOME, AND KDE) It copied Gnome's file folder navigation and favorites, and copied KDE's start menu bar. I could be wrong simply because I didn't do the extensive research but I have used Linux and still use Linux therefore I can tell you that alot of gui feature you will see in windows 7 can be seen in Linux.

I have found a few bugs and I would recommend people to wait until sp1 comes out, however I do believe when bugs are removed it will be a good and interesting upgrade.

Not until I have to, & by then they may have removed all the bugs. It worked out Ok that way for XP, & I never did get Vista.
