Most of us have tried the beta, but when Windows 7 is officially out on the shelves, will you pay for it and upgrade? I am particularly interested to see what XP users have to say.

EDIT: I think these are the prices:

  • Windows 7 Starter: $199
  • Windows 7 Home Premium: $259
  • Windows 7 Professional: $299
  • Windows 7 Ultimate: $319

I am going to give 7 a shot on my laptop. It's the only Vista machine that I own and it sucks ass.
I am hoping that 7 will run a bit faster than Vista.

Someone explain it to me please, like I was a moronic toddler...WHY would I want to change my perfectly good operating system? What benefit does it have that XP does not?

Plus updates to software and a lot of junk cut out. Apparently XP still remains the most stable OS to play games on, but that should change in the not too distant future.

I'm running the RC on both my home and work computers, and I plan on upgrading both of them as soon as it's available retail. I generally wait for the first SP before adopting an MS product, but Windows 7 is such a nice step forward from Vista that I'm just going to buy the damn thing early.

i was reluctant to move to vista from xp (my xp kept crashing so i just went out and bought a new computer which had vista.) As long as I keep Fallout 3 running I won't even notice it's vista!

I do not upgrade.

I partition.

Which may mean getting another hard drive.

Which may mean getting either a SATA expansion card (never got one) or a new motherboard.

If its a new motherboard, will probably get an Intel setup (I've an AMD based system right now), looking maybe a Quad Core 2 or so; the i7 is a little bit rich for me yet.

But I'm good for the moment. Vista B 64 sp2 seems to be working swell, and I've no major issues with it.

The only "issue" I've with the Windows product line is the bundling of extra utilities and software (such as games, wordpad, internet explorer and such) that are obviously not necessary for the operation of the computer system.
