I foresee a great many upheavals around the world, not just in the US. But I don't see the species dying completely.

I agree. As I said earlier in this thread, the future is difficult to predict. But I'm with you. I'd be very surprised (actually I wouldn't because I'll be dead ;)) if humans went extinct in the next couple hundred years. Of course, 99% of species that have ever existed on earth are now extinct. So I suspect that is our eventual fate too.

I think 100 years is being to short sighted.

The real question IMO is will mankind even be around in the next couple hundred of years or will our own technology kill us?

Don't get me wrong, science has improved our lives by leaps and bounds, but man being man, we seem to have an inherant destructive nature, and added with technology, well, I'm just wondering if man will create his own flood without God's help the next time.

Don't know Joe. I'd like to think so. I think we will because I'm an optimist. Science fiction becomes science fact everyday. As soon as man reaches the stars as goes beyond, then I think we get beyond the risk of complete self destruction.

I'm not going to answer for her, but I can say that I've run across some Atheists that are just as rabid as some Christian Fundamentalists on their viewpoints.

That sometimes they are quite guilty of shooting themselves in the foot w/their want to shove their non-beliefs down someone's throat.

Not all. Some.

I agree. It is one thing to say my beliefs are such due to lack of proof, but aome Atheists argue as if their viewpoint is truth, in essence there can't be a God.

Man first has to achieve peace on earth BEFORE he heads to space. Good luck with that one:thumbup

I'm not an optimist, I'm a realist, and I can assure you, sometimes I really wish I wasn't.

I see don't the necessity for all of us to get along before we head out to colonize. Granted, it is waaay in the future, but assuming there is no nuclear holocaust I see it as a natural progression of humankind.

Hell, we reached the moon because of the issues we had with Russia at the time, not in spite of them

We have to be able to work together as a species first IMO before we "head to the stars" and colonize anything.

I would also find it ironic on exactly how much money it would take to colonize anything in outer space and we as a nation spend it to get there BEFORE we take care of our poor and those who need the help.

I really do hope man can overcome his track record on making war.

They called it Star Wars for a reason...

I believe a future space colony would need to be a joint effort between nations. The global economic crisis has every country pretty much in a pinch for funds. For now might as well just enjoy the latest cool gadgets on the market.....sent from an Etch-A-Sketch.... :24: ;)
