We are not a democracy like USA or Britain or Canada. I expected the chewing gum issue to crop up.
See post # 20. That should explain why I posted the blurb regarding the gum issue. It's an extreme example but the US is headed in that direction me thinks.

BTW there is no city in the world which is safer than Singapore.
I believe it but it's a hell of a price to pay isn't it?

I remember that American kid that got caned for spray painting those cars. Betcha he hasn't done that since he got back to the US.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Benjamin Franklin

Las Vegas Sands invested US$5 billion here to build a casiso/resort. It will be ready early next year. Safer to spend your money here than the Sin City.

i would love to. poor dumb bastards clearly cant read the constitution or they simply dont give a rats ass what it says.

i'm guessing both.
That's why I said your rights are slowly eroding.

Being a person that loves to photograph aircraft I communicate with quite a few like minded folks from the US. It's to the point at many locations where that don't dare do it due to the harassment from cops and security personnel.

Also, try taking a pic of a cop or group of 'em and see where that lands you. Fucking sad I tell ya.

He is Michael Fay. Even Bill Clinton appealed on his behalf but we did not succumb.
There is also a hell of a price to pay for freedom and democracy.

So I'm not alone in thinking the US is becoming a police state?

i dont think its a police state as it is a government state. the difference may be slight but important.

it just seems the government is trying to control more and more of our lives than the police do.

now think about this, the police only enforce laws that exist, they are only doing what they are told ergo if the government was smaller and had less authority, the less police can do as a result.

the balance of power SHOULD tip in the favor of american people, WE are the government, not them. we send them there, in theory anyway, to represent us, not to choose and decide for us.

unfortunately more and more people think the government should take care of us, look over us, protect ourselves and others from ourselves and our lifestyle choices. when you follow this the only logical conclusion is eventually you have no choice or say in anything any more and the government has all the power.

the power lies in the people. it always has, it still does and if we steer off our current path, will in the future. otherwise the government will decide more and more what is best for us without giving our say in what we want and what we think is best for us.

we are getting further away from the republic we once were. it's not even an obama thing either, lest anyone be so short sighted. this was happening under bush, clinton, bush, reagan, carter...its been happening since woodrow wilson.

its not a police state, its a government state. the police state will come later after they have consolidated all the power and stripped us of everything it means to be an american and a free person.

no thanks, i like having the ability to chew gum at will. and unlike some people, i know how to properly dispose of my gum.

with liberties comes responsibility. people have a right to chew gum but in order to chew gum you have to respect others and yourself and do the right thing and not stick it under a table or spit out on the sidewalk.

i understand WHY they made it illegal to shew gum without a prescription but taking freedoms away isnt the answer.
