Woot as raid leader of my guild I got the special privlige of successfully leading a gruuls raid tonight.
I can't say the same about Mags because we had a few who just ruined the whole thing. After three wipes I called it.

It was still a ton of fun nonetheless.

Oh BTW it wasn't my first time in either just my first time as the raid leader.

I've been a 5 person party leader! :) and I participated in several Molten Core successful raids when I was still playing. Anyway how much active management is there for the raid leader? Is it mostly calling out the sequence of moves? When I was doing MC, I was more or less a designated healer ordered not to aggro the boss. :D

I'm talking organizing the whole raid. Finding the 25 people with good enough gear, setting up groups, tank assignments, heal assignments, killing orders...blah blah blah.

Honestly that sounds like a lot of work, a combination of whom you know and guild stats. Are guild stats available in a organizable list? I forget.

But when the fighting starts are you making calls or is everyone supposed to know what to do?

Ive killed every boss in the game with the exception of a few special event bosses and Kelthuzad. Ive also led a few raids.

It really depends...in your guild (a more serious guild/guild wanting to raid) if raiders dont know the fight, you gkick them for being mentally handicapped. If a newer person joins on newer content, either you explain the fight or make sure they read up on them on websites like bosskillers.com

Most guilds raid on a schedule, for example we raided 9-1 yesterday, and well raid 9-11 today (short raid week, but theres nothing left to do). There is a guild last on your character sheet on the default UI, showing whos online, the message of teh day, and an optional offline+online list, sortable by location, race, level, last time online, and rank in guild.

The raid leader makes the calls the whole raid. Meaning I explain fights, assign positions, and during fights if I notice someone wasn't doing the right thing or something needed to be switched up.

I'm not that mean to just kick someone right away I give everyone a couple chances.

Not sure why you mention the guild list, but ok.

I should have mentioned it was a pug group I put together and it was still successful. The guild I was in at the time didn't have nearly enough people to do a 25 man raid.

He asked about guild organization.

Also, some guilds are more hardcore than others. If you want to play wow at the highest level, you simply cannot afford to bring people who make frequent mistakes. In early instance (gruuls, ssc, mags lair) you can afford making a mistake. In a boss in sunwell, one player making one mistake will instantly wipe you on almsot every single boss. There are exceptions, but if you want to clear end game cotent, you just cant have bads :p

As for PUGs, if you know what to look for/who to get, you can pug anything up to sunwell...I know I do a weekly Hyjal pug to gear my alts for fun. It only takes 2-3 hours too. Black Temple is very puggable up until Mother Shahraz, but then lack of Shadow Resist makes it very difficult. Sunwell right now is not puggable in any form past trash.

Also, if you are in a high end guild, everyone knows everyone. If I heard anyone speak on vent, I could instantly know who was speaking, what class they were, and what they were doing on any given boss fight. As you kill a boss, youll notice everyones job. Its hard not to. If youre new to a guild you may not know what everyone else is doing, but you also have the advantage of everyone else in that guild knowing each other/have already killed the boss.

Ive been raiding for maybe 3 or 4 years now, and Ive only been in two guilds ever. I help recruit/maintain our guild (I say 2 guilds, but our guild died before TBC released, and more or less reformed when BC launched), I also am friends with a lot of people who play WoW, so I can relate to the most hardcore (I have a few friends in the best american guild) to very casuals, who just log on and do karazhan or a few arena games.

Are you actually fighting or just watching and managing, or both?
Thanks!

I think I mentioned it all ready but I have a hard core addicted friend who besides a family, husband, and girls in high school, (who are all pissed at her), all she does is raid. :smiley24:

Ah I'm in it to win it...lol. I'm right there fighting along with the rest.

It's an addicting game, but some people just don't realize it's easy to balance it between life. Some just think all there is is WoW and that's sad.

One of my girl friends played the same/more than I do, and I played ALL the time. I never had a probem managing job/dating/school, but at the same time, dating a person who played wow as kind of annoying tbh.

my problem is I have to make do with wireless. The government says we can't drill holes in and run wire around this building - and I don't care what anyone might say, wireless cannot adequatley sustain 1000 users.
Anyone who says different works for a wirless router company.

Lol! You mean you don't like being a secondary priority? :D

Yep ethernet is better than wireless.
