I'm surprised so many say anyone can choose any religion. I always imagined it was fairly difficult to switch beliefs.
Imagine it as shopping for slacks, only we're talking about beliefs instead of hips. You don't change your hips, you just try to find the slacks that fit the best. Over time, you might find that your hips become more, um, defined, and so find that a different style of slacks might appeal to you.

I see what you did there, used a shopping analogy to explain this really complicated theory to the ladies

Your example assumes a change of spiritual belief, which, unlike hip size, I don't believe people can induce or prevent to the same extent. I believe spirituality is more related to personality and life experience; the former being fairly fixed.

I enjoy the Fish N Chips decal, mostly because I love fish and chips, not for any blasphemous effect :ninja

I was raised a Bible-thumpin' Baptist, and while I still am a Christian, I don't accept the tenets of the evangelical christian faith anymore. My leanings are much closer to Buddhism, as I perceive is much closer to Jesus' teachings than Paul's rules to live by..

I don't know how I would have figured it out without a shopping and weight gain analogy. God bless him.
Hehehe. Just don't tell my wife. She might want me to start taking her shopping again. :eek

I took an online religious placement test awhile ago. My best fit was secular humanist. My second best was Quaker. The only thing I know about Quakers is they helped run the underground railroad for run away slaves. That sounds pretty good.

Look into the quakers more. As I said earlier, if I was going to follow a religion, the'd be my first choice. They get a bit of a rep as nutters but are actually the most open minded, sensible, religion I've come across. :thumbup

My "faith" (although I prefer to call it "what makes the most sense to me so far") is a mish mash of all religions in a way, and reading I've done over the course of my lifetime.

I was trying to articulate 'my faith' and "Mish Mash" covers it ;) Sounds better than ChristoPaganish ;)

And you forgot to say that Christians never rationalize anything (or did you imply that? :)), although in a reply to me the other day you asked what was wrong with being rational when I accused you of rationalization... lol.

Gotta love my stalkers...um, I mean fans. I bet ol' minor axis lies awake at night thinking about my posts....now I know how the Beatles must have felt. :24: :24:

What has aethism got to do with belief? It is the lack of belief. Doombug has clearly failed to even grasp the basics of aethism, he might as well mak an attack on Green Bay Packers fans, it makes as much sense, lol!

An ideology is an ideology. Atheists try and escape any connection. I wonder if any Green Bay Packers fan has ever killed as many people as Joseph Stalin?

So you still haven't grasped that aethism isn't an ideology? Talk about talking out of your arse! Come back when you know what the fuck you're going on about.

Like it or not it is what it is. Trying to define atheists free from any connections isn't very effective. They should just own up.
