i don't give a shit so long as i don't have to see them snogging in the street....that goes for straights too. I'm not one for public touchy feely shite.

AMEN!!! Gay or straight, I don't want to see people full-on making out. It's really kinda gross. I expect to see it in the clubs or whatever, but not out on the street or something. YUCK!!!

Personally, i dont like homosexuals; but they are human beings and deserve to live as much as I do. I would hope they wouldent show affection in public places. Here is why, I believe being homosexual is a choice. Its a behavior. Kids can learn it.

So you believe that you yourself could have been TAUGHT to be gay as a child??? So what happened to gay people...their parents TAUGHT them to be gay??? If you can honestly tell me w/ a straight face that there is ANYTHING that anybody could EVER tell you that would turn YOU gay, please do so.

Can someone explain to me why we have gay parades?...and why aren't their straight parades? I honestly don't agree nor understand why queers have to parade themselves in the most uncouth ways during such gay pride events. You don't see straight people having parades and flouncing around their tits and back sides in S & M wear.

They also have a flag...a rainbow. Whats our straight flag?

These are the two things about the 'flash' of homosexuality i don't like and don't agree with nor understand. We don't go around and say hey i came out of the closet today and guess what! I'm straight! Better get my straight flag and s&m wear ready so i can be all straight in a parade.

Do you understand what I am trying to say here? No one needs to know about anothers sexuality unless you fancy someone and you want to shag them.

The reason they do is because unfortunately there are still narrow minded people like the Doc around.

To each their own! If a child asked why 2 men/women were kissing it would get the same answer as if a man and a woman were kissing.

The ignorance involved in that statement is almost more than I can bear. Like, seriously... I about simultaneously choked and spit my drink out while trying not to laugh my ass off at you. You remind me of someone I knew at another forum... his greatest fear was that his son would become a homosexual. Out of all of the things you could be worried about for your children, that they might end up gay is the biggest one in his life. You sound like a backwoods redneck worried that your future kids might, "catch the gay". Homosexuality is as much of a choice as it is for me to have green eyes.

People who say you can learn to be gay and choose to be gay are usually implying homosexuality doesn't occur naturally, but is a defective trait we pick up in our human ugliness than can be removed with a little clean living.

This is a far different implied "choice" than making the often painful decision to live a lie and fuck something you don't find appealing because it's typically hard to go against the grain in society.

More often I think someone is making the "choice" to live a normal life, not a choice to be straight when they are gay, specifically.
I think you might be suffering from some of the same narrow-mindedness that you're accusing others of. Where do bi-sexual people fit into your scheme of things? In this world where monogamy is the only option, and you're either born gay or straight and there are no other options, are these people just confused?

Niamh What about if your kid asks you why two men are kissing each other in the street?

My position is if they don't show off their feelings in the public places then i don't mind about.

My kids know about people being gay, I don't have a problem with that.

 This thread is very specifically about homosexuals.
If you want to banter about the continuum of human sexuality and societal expectations on relationships, start a thread.

I will say, I don't generally talk a lot of shit about people being "narrow" minded, because I don't know exactly what that term implies. What is it to be open minded, specifically? I don't think that's for me to say. In this thread I was mostly interested to see exactly what harm the OP felt would be caused by children thinking homosexuality is ok. My personal opinion is that people who look down on homosexuals are just mean and possibly ignorant regarding human sexuality, not necessarily closed minded in general.

IMO... people are far too fucking uptight about sex period.

Gay, straight etc...

And why should I care if my child saw two women or two men or a male and female kissing? My answer to the my child would be the same for all of the above... They are showing affection to eachother. ...

Hello kinda easy concept.

Panacea it will hurt them. They can start thinking that two kissing men or women is OK.

It will only "hurt" them if you can catch the "gay" and you believe it's wrong to be gay. But you can't catch it, so how does it affect them?

True to some degree as it depends if the kids are well informed about homosexuality. It's a matter of education and provision of info as kids are curious and they wanna know. Better that info comes from parents than from online/strangers where there are varied views and they can be misled.

I don't have any problems with gays either. What they do is their business.....

You can't say for sure it will hurt them, first off. I'm guessing you're not a child psychologist/pediatrician.

I dont think it needs a degree in Psychology nor MD for someone to know the effects of homosexuality in kids. As I mentioned above ^^: if they're not well educated and their questions aren't answered appropriately by their parents ( am not sure if they teach about homosexuality in school), then they can get the wrong impressions.

That's simply your opinion, but fact it is not.

I beg to differ. There are facts out there evident to show it's effects on miseducated/misinformed kids.

This info is not for all gays of course.

to name a few: Homosexuality endorses

1) multiple, very frequent change in partners some leading to unhealthy sex life/lifestyle = STDs etc
2) some crimes like sexual abuse of kids in LA stats/police reports show 30,000 are committed by homosexuals
3) Homosexuals account for a disproportionate number of hepatitis cases: 66% in New York Cit, 70--80% in San Francisco, 56% in Toronto, 42% in Montreal, and 26% in Melbourne
4) certain percentage of homosexuals participate in sadomasochism leading to accidental deaths
5) In California alone and given that this is the only state that has a hospital catering to the SVPs ( sexually violent predators)( FYI: not all the patients are from California but from all over US ) about 1/3 of the hospital population are gays who have preyed on young kids. Kids interviewed during police reports/investigations show evidence of the lack of knowledge of those kids re: homosexuality and it's effects and how the kids can easily be preyed on....

and lots more......

Are these the types of endorsements that we want our kids to learn by not minding what our kids see from homosexuals? :willy_nilly:

Straight people are equally capable of being promiscuous.

2) some crimes like sexual abuse of kids in LA stats/police reports show 30,000 are committed by homosexuals

What percentage of sexual abuse crimes is this though? Saying 30,000 looks like a bad number, what's the number for straight people? Is it the same? Double? Triple?

4) certain percentage of homosexuals participate in sadomasochism leading to accidental deaths

Plenty of straight people engage in sadomasochism too. It's not a homosexual thing, it's just a thing.

I don't know where you got these 'facts' from but they seem a little biased towards making out that gay people are terrible sexual deviants. There are plenty of straight deviants but no one seems bothered about condemning heterosexuals.

Gay parades are forbidden in Moscow and in Israel as far as I know

In terms of thinking homosexuality is ok, I suppose most people believe it is ok already, so it isn't as if having a new generation of kids think the same thing as the old generation in regards to homosexuality is that shocking.

But you didn't answer my question fully...given what you've said, what specifically about thinking homosexuality is ok is harmful?

I am not but for sure it is disgusting to show off your feeling in the public places both for gays and for normal people
