What is your attitude to gays and lesbians?

After saying that, if I had a child in school my knee jerk reaction is that I would prefer not to have an openly gay person teaching them. Yes that is prejudice on my part that I think I could overcome if I had to. For college I would not care.

Seriously tough, most Gay teachers are under more of a microscope then any straight acting teacher would be.. Every time I go to the school where my son is I can't help but think of priests using the church to hide behind when I see the married man teaching kindergartners.. I know I am being stereotyping of people, but it's the feeling I get.. The sad part is he is a great teacher.. Maybe he is really gay but married as a front.. :ninja

It has nothing to do with the ability to eductate, but the ability to influence. Kids are impressionable and will experiment, not all kids, some. I would prefer if a gay teacher would keep their sexual orientation to themselves. BTW "prefer" does not equate to "fire" (from the job). This is the feeling I had when I had an elementary age child and I acknowledged it was a prejudice. I don't believe that homosexuality is a choice, but I'm not sure it is set in stone, people develop based on factors in their lives. I don't know what factors are involved in that development so less exposure to what I consider to be a less desirable sexual orientation, the better.

To be fair, that you acknowledge that it's a prejudice says a lot more for you than some of the others in this thread...so I give you kudos for that. And I'm not being sarcastic here...I'm being totally serious.
