I've been wondering what all of you consider a Troll. No names please.

Just tell me in your own words what you believe a Troll is... or does..... etc.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response[1] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[2] In addition to the offending poster, the noun troll can also refer to the provocative message itself, as in "that was an excellent troll you posted". While the term troll and its associated action trolling are primarily associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels highly subjective, with trolling being used to describe intentionally provocative actions outside of an online context. For example, recent media accounts have used the term troll to describe "a person who defaces internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."

Could someone who posts his beliefs (even if cut & paste) on any subject imaginable and offers up no feedback when pressed.....or changes tactics/stance.... possibly be mistaken as a troll.... when in fact... they just want to state these things in hopes of discussion.... and their threads and/or posts take a turn for the worse.... one post at a time.... not through a fault all of their own doing?

Is that even a remote possibility?

Trolling is like trying to define obscenity

It can be held to different standards in different communities

But typically one knows what is obscene and who is trolling

A good troll will dance on the line of what is allowed and not allowed

Thus why guys like Kelvin and Mazhur keep getting away with their shit here

Although Kelvin has not been seen in quite a while. Maybe his country finally found him out and locked him up:D

In my opinion, no. There is no "hope of discussion" when you flame away at every reply, and offer to meaningful rebuttal to the points being made. When your only response is meant to simply increase the level of frustration and add fuel to the fire.

To use your own words, "offering no feedback when pressed" is completely the opposite of being "in hope of discussion."

I also scoff at the idea of "no fault of their own doing" when the person carefully selects the most inflammatory language imaginable.

NOT NAMING ANY NAMES, it's blatantly obvious that SOMEONE that frequents this section posts what they post for no other reason than to cause conflict and be annoying, THEY have admitted this themselves in the past, and honestly it's IMPOSSIBLE to mistake most of the things they post for anything other than what they are. And if you offer NO FEEDBACK WHEN PRESSED then clearly you are not trying to add to any kind of discussion.

It's more the fact that some people take things the wrong way. People think FACTS about the deindustrialisation of America is insulting it. Way to make enemies.

Um... the person which we are not naming but clearly talking about does nothing to add to any discussion. His posts are intended to inflame the audience and that's it. He isn't open to discussion in any way, shape or form and that's obvious to even a 2nd grader. That being the case there isn't any right way and the only course is the wrong way but not in the way of which you spoke.

You took what I said the wrong way...
One minute people are asking for this person's views because they never stated them, the next moment people are saying that because that person posted something about America that that person must hate it. It's happened times before.
I don't always agree with what this person says either, or what you guys say to that person, it's ridiculous if you ask me. It's like "Rabbit season-Duck season".
I don't really care about his posts, I ignore a lot of the debate ones anyway. Debating the same old thing, is boring anyway! If everyone hates it that much, then don't respond to it. But people always end up responding to it because they LOVE hating on this person.
I'm not quite sure if it's the right words, but there's cultural insensitivity here as well. Morality is so subjective, how can you call someone else wrong based on their values? It entirely depends.
