So you're saying you have the right to but whatever you want as long as no arbitrary laws say you can't, and thats ok because its not specifically mentioned in the bill of rights, which has nothing to do with consumerism

I said in great length that people who have a reason to own a truck can. I'm talking about people who buy them for status.

Oh, and I could esily say that you owning a vehicle that hogs gas, and pumps exponential levels of emissions into the atmosphere is an infraction on my rights.

This is the most ticky tack, posted just to stir shit thread I've seen here in a years time. As long as my Tahoe passes emissions standards and I'm paying the gas and insurance I'll listen to no shit from anyone on my choice of vehicle.

I usually fill it up whenever it gets down to half, but its about $25 or so depending. I only drive 3.7 miles to work one way so I'm not doing much in the way of commuting. Running errands and trips out of state we use my wifes car.

But still as little as I drive I'm not "hogging up all the gas". And it isn't coming out of anyones account but my own so if I'm using more per mile than your Hyundai...so what?

So you don't need it by any means but to drive it then. You could be doing the same thing with a more gas efficient car that will ultimately cost you less.

But I use the 4 wheel drive at least once a month in recreation. There are places around here you can't get to without 4 wheel drive...granted its leisure activity but everyone needs a hobby. I'd even argue that thanks to my lift kit I'm a little safer because I have a better vantage point looking down at things. I can definitely see more than looking out of my wifes 300M.

Could I get back and forth to work in a more fuel efficient vehicle...sure. Could you wear cheaper clothes? Certainly. Could millions do without their over-priced Starbucks coffees. Definitely. To make the statement that in your opinion a lot of people needlessly drive bigger vehicles is one thing. To say they shouldn't have that choice just doesn't seem right to me.

Small; voice - Erm... I give a flying fuck about our environment which our children will have to live in.
me, too, which is why I plant trees like a crazy motherfucker. I know for a fact in the last month I have personally been attached to the planting of 136 trees.

This Saturday, I will be in charge of overseeing and planting 164 more. Trees are good for the environment.

What I was referring to about giving a flying fuck is the inanity of AEF arguing about rights versus priviledges. It's fucking stupid. :smiley24: :confused

Well thats very nice of you, I'm serious about that. I planted a few trees on my property last year, it nice. :)


But yeah, its going to take a lot more trees to reverse what is already in motion, if it can be reavearsed at all.

Like I was saying it seems everyone buys them to keep up with the other person next to them. It is almost like a vehicle trend or fad. But what really gets me is they don't know how to drive or park these things.

Well, you have a reason to own one then, you have large animals that require that power.

Much of these vehicles are trends and are obviously designed to be flashy.

While I agree with this to an extent. Do you have any research of your own that backs up your opinion? "Trends" and "flashy" mean different things to different people.

I plan on buying a truck and making it my daily driver, only difference is I'll only need a 4 banger ranger, or S10, etc. However, those still sit taller and use more gas than a 4 banger car.

People buy (pickup) trucks for utility. Whether its intermittent use or everyday use. Larger SUVs like the Expedition, Explorer, etc... I don't enjoy being behind in my car, and don't see the point of just like you.

However, if the owner knows how to drive. They do WONDERS in 12" snow falls that my car would simply get stuck in.

You just have to look at how humans operate. We are a social animal. Look at other fads and trends. People buy into them like there's no tomorrow when they become popular in order to feel "important" or one of the heard. its common sociology. Lets say low riders became popular among celebrities, ODDS ARE they will slowly become more popular with other people when they see the wealthy drive them because they are associated with glamor and money.
