I looked around for a pinned sub forum for pets, but couldn't find one, so I'm posting here since my pets are a very important part of my family...
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Last night, just before I went to sleep, one of my eight cats died on my arms, and I've been crying my eyes out since then.
Priscilla was thirteen years old and I never expected she would be the one to go at this time.. I don't know what happened to her, but it came so out of the blue.. it threw me for a loop..
All of my pets are indoor only animals, and besides the visits to the vet, none of them ever go outside...
Everyone had a check up a few weeks ago, and she was very healthy..
At that visit, my vet and I had been discussing about making the final decision for her brother Lucas, and Misty, another cat I helped rehab more than fifteen years ago- she is twenty now-..
They are both going downhill pretty fast, but I have been reluctant to do that, as long as I see they are not in pain or suffering.
I have many years of experience taking care of small animals, and can easily judge when it's time to let them go... and they go surrounded by love.
I'm remembering the day my oldest daughter called me from work, begging me to go and get two tiny newborn kittens that had been found by one of her coworkers... The babies had been alone for almost a day, it was bitterly cold and no one could find the mother... a feral cat they all had been feeding..
When I got there, I realized those kittens were suffering from hypothermia and would die soon if I didn't take care of them.
I put them inside my coat pocket and rushed home so I could get them warm and feed them..
They spent the first night in a special bag I made, so I could keep them warm against my body, and the next morning I was at my veterinarian's clinic before she got there...
After she examined them, she said they were healthy and alive thanks to my care, and also determined they were about three days old!..
I was their mommy now, and they depended on me...
I had to feed and clean them...
I also had to teach them how to care for themselves, like a mother cat does..
Prissy, you were my little sweet girl and I will miss you.. You left a big void in my life and will be in my heart forever..
I know you are on that very special place at the other side of the rainbow bridge, together with all of my other two and four legged friends that have left my home before you... watching me and knowing how much I still love all of you.. ♥
