I've had the wand wave, one pat down and two "taken aside to be questioned". The first questioning was at Amsterdam's Schipol airport however when I was flying internationally through Schipol.

I don't mind it. I am conscious of racial profiling so I make sure to ensure I'm clean shaven before flying international because of the colour of my skin.

On one occasion flying back from the States, there were a gang of security people with guns in the jetbridge just before the plane's doors.

They stopped me and had a look at my passport.

I don't think they much liked my tee-shirt. They asked me if I was with Homeland Security to which I replied "No, it's a humourous tee."

This was the tee in question I was wearing:

Israeli airport gives rare glimpse into security

I just googled for "busiest airports in the world by passenger traffic" and it doesn't seem their main airport has that many passengers - not in the top 30 that the wikipedia article mentioned.

Would their methods for dealing with passengers scale effectively in terms of volume and cost (e.g. not exponentially higher) with far more busier airports? I'm not against their methods in principle.

:24: :24: I was actually hoping the Americans on this site read my link even though I knew they wouldn't. It's a bad habit they have... that not reading a link stuff. Makes me wonder if some here actually can read.

Anywhoo... it"s a story that lists which airports in the US have those damn machines. :D

This has got to be THE most fucked up statement that otherwise sane people make with a straight face. Most people make it without thought, because the slightest effort would reveal how dumb it is. Would you still say the same if the police just decided to enter houses at random to search for potential bomb-making paraphernalia? How about full strip & cavity searches? I mean, if you've got nothing to hide, you shouldn't have a problem proving it, right?
My thing is that I would feel alot better knowing that I am on a plane where the people on it with me, were properly checked for illegal contraband.

You can fly blind if you want, but I am in complete support of TSA.

If I ever fly out of here it'd be BWI seeing as it's not quite ten minutes away (and that's IN traffic!) and they have it. Woo hoo. And I mean that in the most UNenthusiastic way possible.

Good thing the drive to Momma and Daddy's would make up for the get to the airport early, hurry up and wait, stand in line, sit on the plane, fly for half an hour, sit on the plane, hurry up and wait, baggage claim, find the car, drive the hour to their house... Nope. I'd rather drive.

I fly to Vegas in December

Should be interesting

I have a hunch that after the big traffic flow on Thanksgiving along with all the publicity thus far they will adjust how the pat downs are done.

I don't see how they can continue on much longer as it would be an assault if a police office did the same. No matter the officer is looking for a gun and not an explosive.

and from what i have heard one could put enough explosive up their cavities that would not be detected which could take down an airplane. Maybe we need cameras in the shitters on the planes :D

"properly checked"?? So it's proper to assume guilt and grope genitalia to prove innocence? What the fuck country have we become?

As Codrus indicated, El Al is very effective without resorting to humiliation.

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/full-body-scanners-are-illusion-security

“We at El Al have used the hand/body search for so many years, but we did it only to suspicious passengers that were interviewed by us,” said Yeffet. “We asked the questions and we were able to determine that there was something wrong with a passenger.”

Yeffet pointed out that El Al’s security personnel are highly trained in reading people’s physical actions as indicators of behavior.

“If you are bona fide, you have no problems answering [questions]” he said. “If you want to hide from us, we see the physical changes in your face--suddenly you raise your voice, suddenly your Adam’s apple jumps up and down, you’re nervous. Then we ask, 'Why are you nervous? I'm doing it for your safety sir or Ma'am.’”

Outstanding! I like his suggestion that every congressman, cabinet member, & the President should have to go through this before they decide whether it's good. I'd like to see Obama's face if one of his daughters had to endure what that little girl went through.

About a year ago there was a guy that challenged President Obama to send his wife & kids through the scanners and have the pictures published since the pictures aren't invasive. I think he's still waiting on that.

i wonder what would happen if a regular citizen turned around and gave the TSA agent the same "pat down" what would happen?

Mr Public Citizen would be arrested for assault?
