I think this latest unnecessary draconian step is the latest push in the Obama/Biden high speed rail bid. Notice that the rail system doesn't have such high security problems.

Private airlines should be handling their own security.

Personally, I'm looking into driving to Mexico & flying out of there next time I visit Japan.

I think that's a little paranoid there. These are just continuing down the path that Bush started and Obama is happy to follow. Keeping people scared of a fictitious enemy as they erode everyone's rights. They've been doing the same in Britain for years now.

What is the goal of a 'terrorist'? To change ones' way of life through fear.

I guess ubl won eh?

Funny how Chertoff put these measures in place and now I've read it's his company that is profiting from these measures. If true, I'm certainly not surprised.

Pay no attention to the men and women profiting behind the curtain.

Just be a good American and be afraid. Be very afraid. It's the new Patriotism. :usa:

9/11 achieved so many goals, both for the terrorists and for those in power.

The politics of fear unfortunately aren't just restricted to the US.

lol!!!

Joking about it reminds me about the other incident I read about where TSA planted drugs on a traveler for a joke. At least they got in trouble for their 'humor'.

Gotta love people on a powertrip. They can be so freaking funny - Not.

I agree w/ what Roxi and Kim had to say. But I do want to address this...

She has the legal wording wrong, but TECHNICALLY under the letter of the law any unwelcome sexual contact is considering sexual battery. My nephew has a friend that just got probation b/c he thought it would be funny to slap the ass of a random stranger. Random stranger didn't find it funny...random stranger pressed charges for sexual battery. I seriously doubt any charges against the screeners would stick, though, since they ARE performing their job.

And I also wanted to address this:

The cleavage area isn't what they're concerned about. Whenever I have to conduct a search, we're more concerned w/ the band around the bottom of the bra. We have to pull that out and shake so that anything hidden in the bra will fall out...same goes for the waistband of pants. And, for the record, I absolutely HATE doing searches!!!

Trust me Tash I know its illegal to make sexual contact with someoene who is not wanting it.... I can semi understand why you nephew got in trouble he made some what of a sexual advance towards a complete stranger his punishment however I do find ridiculous...... my problem is with the woman claiming she was so distraught by being patted down, and I'm going to bet she won't leave it at and someone is going to get sued over it. She is blowing the whole thing out of proportion... these processes are put in place for everyones safety including her own and it pisses me for those who have been sexully assulted its sickning and to me feels that she is making a mockery of real victums of assualt and abuse...

How does that not line up with my post? Stay afraid of flying. Here, we'll spend billions upon billions on this safe rail system so that you won't have to fly. It'll be run by my sponsor, er, campaign contrbutors.

I don't think they want people to be afraid of flying though. They certainly want people to be afraid of a few extremists in a cave though: that power gives them the power to do a lot more than push through a high speed rail programme, not to mention make people easier to control and spy on.

I have a question..

Are these body searches done for ALL flights, or just OS ones?

I have NEVER seen anyone, or been full body searched EVER here in OZ....but I havent flown internationally for many years.

Domestic terminals, you pass through metal detectors, and random people get chosen to have this wand like thing passed over their body and into their bags that detects explosive material, but thats it.

With todays technology and x-ray machines...why do they even NEED to manhandle you?

If you would have read the link in my post you would probably have the answer. In any event I'll bring you up to speed.

A person has the right to opt out of the see-it-all machine but if you do opt out that gives them the authority to do a patdown.

Don't worry Cammy. Those machines will be in every airport in the whole wide world before too long.
