Thoughts on Declawing cats

I wanted to ask your opinion on this. I have heard of it and to be honest i never got why people did it. But My cat seems to hate the new lounge, she is ruining it right before my eyes and sratches the crap out of it.
I am seriously thinking of getting her a new home, i cant afford to be replacing everything she is going to destroy. Hell I have trained my kids to behave and the cat runs amok.
Is it in humane to declaw a cat?
That was my first opinion however, she is not an outside cat she lives inside.
I really dont know what else to do and to be honest i would prefer to keep her.

I never really knew that much about it i figured it was just trimming their claws but its actually removing their claws altogether :yuk I had no idea.

Im seriously considering giving her to another home. I dont want to but i dont work my ass off for new things only for her to ruin them. She had a scratching post and all but doesnt like it

I have two cats declawed and one that isn't. The vet my family has been using for years has said that it isn't inhumane and he does it with his own cats. I'm kinda wishing that my other cat was declawed since she's destroyed part of my couch. Then she finally decided to use the scratching post that I got for her. The two that I have that are declawed are perfectly healthy and adjusted, don't have any issues without their claws, and are inside cats so there's no real need for them.

But I've been told by other people that I'm a horrible person for having them declawed.

How is it cruel ? Cats don't remember eating so they keep eating till they puke. They will not even know there gone.

I have tried so many other things too Citrus near the lounge hell i rubbed citrus scented oil into the lounge and she still scratches it.
She has a post and doesnt use it, she has ruined the mats at the front and back door its sooo frustrating

im for declawing cats, especially if they're strictly indoor only. if they're both in/outdoor, then just the front paws would be declawed

Some methods are more humane than others. Declawing is actually an amputation of the last joint of your cat's "toes". Please read this article:

While this is an anti-declawing article, there are some surgical methods that are kinder to the cat than others. You need to be aware what is actually being done to the animal. The kinder methods are more expensive. We had one unreformable sofa scratcher declawed with the more expensive method with a pain medication patch and he was back to normal quickly.

I don't think I'll ever declaw a cat again - actually, don't plan on having any more cats after these depart.

I admit I am prejudiced, very pro cat, dog etc., and I think it is a very inhumane procedure and would NOT have it done. But I am not reasonable about pets aka my babies. I am a push over. I just value my pets more than possessions.

Its at the point i think where Its declaw her or get rid of her. I really dont want to do either and ill be fucked if im attaching claw covers to her on a daily basis. guess i will have to ring around see what it will cost and if it can be done here.

you cat loves your couch actually
but you can train it
but it will take a lot of work
you have to be very forceful more than most people want to do
because cats have huge egos and they are stubbern and bull headed when it comes to telling them do something
you either have to force them to stop or trick them or use electronic shock stuff
If I wanted to keep the cat and it kept doing that I would pop it on the head and shortly after pet it
the skull will resist the most damage and you cannot spank a kat the body is just not designed in a way to allow that
dont be scared to pop it on the head hard cause some cats are really stubborn but make sure you pet and be nice to the cat right afterwards
because if you dont the cat will be skiddish and run away and stuff and wait till you are gone to destroy
like a kid I say wait 5 minutes after a smack not 3 sec
3 secs will confuse the cat im getting hit on the head and then hug wtf
there are sprays that the cats cant stand to smell and will stay away from that you can spray on your furniture
there are also plastic gards you can screw onto your couch
I like cats but there is a huge difference between cats and dogs

We have a cat and we got her front paws declawed but not her back. I forget why we got her declawed but we did and it was only when she was a kitten. It's cute really because she'll bat my hands and her paws are just so cute because they don't actually hurt. She tends to stick me with her back claws when she sits on my stomach which is a lot. I dunno a lot about it but I'm all for it. I wouldn't want to put a cat in pain because I adore them but it's good for indoor cats like mine.

I've never liked getting a cat declawed on the primary basis that if the manage to get out of the house, they have little viable ways of protecting themselves. Granted it does suck to see hard earned cash go down the drain...like dark said training will be a pain, but ultimately worth it. As for the humanity of declawing, as a cat gets older some procedures become less possible (and therefore less humane) so depending on how old the cat is your options may be limited.

Did you have your cat spayed (fixed)? Because I don't see how that's anymore inhumane than having them declawed. Both are surgical procedures done under anesthesia

One of my parents cats doesn't have front claws but he was like that when they took him in. They let him outside only cuz he pissed on the floor when they tried to keep him in. He still scraps. He lost an eye fighting another cat.

I am sorry about your lounge though I know thats enough to make me rehome for sure so as far as that dont feel bad, theres only so much we can take caring for animals, and I dont care about this if you got it for life thing, I get pets for life but sometimes certain pets we just cant live with without skinning them lol.
