Oh my mistake... it clearly says that you have the right to peaceably assemble only during the day.

So let me ask you a simple and straight forward question.

What does freedom of peaceful assembly mean to you? What limitations are allowed and when it is ok to legislate against it?

so then you think it should be legal to camp overnight anywhere

let em go ahead and ignore all the reasons for the prohibition to begin with

after all there is a lot of great protesting going on at 3am :D

They are not camping for the sake of camping, they are protesting. There is a huge difference and I can't help you if you can't see the difference.

Like I said there is a lot of protesting going on at 3am

If you can not understand the legitimate reasons why the laws banning over night camping in urban areas then I give up.

You win

Lets all camp out at your house and protest liberal lunacy. Nothing wrong with that I guess.

Let me repeat there are no absolutes.

Since when did it become liberal lunacy to want the constitution followed?

Oh, that's right. Those on the right ONLY follow the parts that suit their needs... got it.

So what you are saying is... they have laws about overnighting in a park and that's ok if it infringes on your right to peaceably assemble even when it clearly says that laws will not be created that infringe on that right....

It only became a stupid law when out of the blue a group decided to camp out over night

Until then I bet you never gave it a thought and never would have questioned the law because it is logical for health and safety purposes to not allow over night camping in urban areas.

You don't have a right to camp, you do however have a right to peaceably protest. So the law does not infringe on any right to camp, but it does when the space is used to protest.

Sorry but those inconvenient unrelated laws are still laws. If you think camping out anywhere in an urban area overnight is ok then get the law changed. I doubt you will find many who will agree that it is a good idea though.
This is just like the airline allowing smoking we discussed a few days ago. It doesn't really matter if it's a good idea or not. If someone wants to camp inside a city on public property, what's the beef?

Using your logic then people might as well set up a red light district for hookers and allow smoking pot in Zucatti Park
Sure, why not?

If you can not understand the legitimate reasons why the laws banning over night camping in urban areas then I give up.
Don't give up without even once trying to explain. I don't get it.

Hey GuyzerTheGrumpyGeezer - :fing27 - Talk in cirlces much? :willy_nilly:

Come on Geezer - ease up with the attempt at coming across as some kind of intellectual and just engage in a simple conversation. If you agree that what the cops did was "despicable", then why engage in all the verbal asshattery?

Call it what you like. It's no skin off my nose.

What gets me is there are three groups of people when it comes to matters such as these.

One that supports the law & cops at almost any cost... that would be people in law enforcement

One that supports the people that decide what's best for society and shun the laws that are in place for all to abide by. That's where the majority of the people that got sprayed fall. They refused to follow a simple request and vacate the property. That left the school a couple of choices... 1 - use the batons to beat the fuckers off the property 2 - Spray the bastards and force 'em to leave.

I'm not a lawyer but I believe there are ways of getting approval via permits to carry on a rebellion :D if that's what one chooses to do. Don't assume it's ok to call the shots and expect no retaliation. That's the third one and that's where I stand. Make sense? *** Oops... stupid question considering who I'm responding to. ***

The reason over night camping is prohibited in places is for safety, sanitation/health concerns.

Your view of it being compared to the airline and smoking I understand. I might have to review my thought on this although at first blush it seems like a restraint that is justified.

On a different tack how about the cost issues of all this. It is getting expensive. Should these protesters have to contribute to a fund to cover the police presence?

Do you think permits should be required for these protests? How about a compromise where a given number is allowed into an area and the costs for police, clean up, etc. is paid for by the protesters?

My but you do carry on grouchy Guyzer.

As I am well aware of how ignorant and arrogant some Americans tend to be with foriegn relations, I have to point out a little ignorance and arrogance north of the border. You apparently don't know much about U.S. history, government or our Constitution - hence your simpleton comments on this issue.

Permits to carry on a rebellion? :umno:urstupid:

Do a little research on the Civil rights movement - and while you're at it, go to the historical archives and pull up a copy of the permit for the Boston Tea Party rebellion.

Have a delightful evening. :)

I'm having a hard time deciding whether I'm seeing history in the making and this is something that I would want to tell my children about when I have some or whether this is just some movement with no real objective. It's hard to tell.
