Simple question....

Do you believe in the existence of the Soul?

If not..why not?

If so....why?

All the Religious/Scientific debate threads got me thinking..

If science proved the existance of the soul....would you atheists and agnostics out there change your views?

Not on "religion" per se...but on spirituality? (for want of a better word)

Of course we would, well, I would. I'd love to believe in the soul actually or in anything that is now considered over human or supernatural. But that's rationally impossible, the idea of the soul is nonsensical until proven or demonstrated otherwise.

I do not believe in a soul...

For those who do believe in a soul, where do you think it comes from? Is it created when you are born or during conception? If so, why would you think it would last forever then?
If you believe that souls are timeless, then how can you account for the 6 billion people today with souls and 1000 years ago there was only a fraction of that?
The concept of souls just doesn't make any sense, not to me anyway. For those who do believe in a soul, please explain how it's possible. I believe that those who actually sit down and put a little logical thought behind the concept, they would doubt.

I believe we have a soul.

Disagreeing with Tim, here... I don't think the soul enters the body until we take our first breath. Just my silly opinion.

*waiting for someone to come up with scientific evidence*...*whistles*
Science shmience... you people make laugh. "science can't prove it so it must be impossible"... Well there are a lot of things that should be impossible by scientific standards but still happen.

Napoleon commented while receiving Laplace's astronomy book, "they tell me you have written this large book on the system of the universe, and have never even mentioned its Creator." Laplace responded, "I had no need of that hypothesis." For the same reason, I don't believe we have souls. Souls are not needed to explain thought, emotion or volition.

Yes, I would believe in souls if there was proof. Someone mentioned an OOB experience. That would suffice as proof if it were scientifically documented. Scientists have tried to document this with people who are able to have OOB experiences. For example, they put a person in one room and told them leave their body and go into an adjacent room. Some of the subjects claimed to succeed in doing so but none could correctly describe what was in the adjacent room once they returned to their body.
