Yes strippers, porn stars, and hookers.

What are your thoughts? Nothing wrong with making a buck off of silly men wanting to give strippers their money in hopes of something more? Porn stars making big bucks off of men wanting to watch them do whatever? Hookers getting money for providing sex?

Do you feel any of these trades have a negative affect on women in society?

If you're ok with it, how would you feel if your daughter went into one of these trades? Would you be supportive and proud they're using their body, instead of their intellect, for money?

Do you think it's ok because men are willing to pay for these things? I've heard a few say they should do it because they can. Do you think people should sell drugs, steal, and kill because they can, and because it pays well? They need to feed their children too after all.

Of course everyone has their choices to make in life, I can also see how it has a negative effect on womens perception of men. No matter what your past or your history, women find it hard not to label every guy as someone that dotes on and feeds the porn industry. And a lot do, but it can have negative impacts on all of us.

Turning it on my own gender, I can see in my experience how the internet and the even easier access of porn seems to have rendered everything desensitised.

Women are expected to be always "on" for sex, wet and ready for you as soon as you look at them, guys are expected to have a raging hard on constantly and able to satisfy women ten times a night, and each sex should be able to do this in around 20 positions (hello Team America sex scene lol)

So yes, the industry and it's ease of access seem to have led to extraordinary expectations of everyone. And the ease of access has lead to our TV programming becoming more and more like the soft porn of my era just because "well hey it's not porn so let's all get nekkid if the film/tv needs it or not". I'll give an example...I watched "Rome" and in the first one or two they had a scene where a guy was travelling with his centurions across the country....and the only reason they showed the scene was to show him raping a girl against a tree. There was no reason for this scene, not alluded to ever again, just an excuse to show us someone getting it. And that's (imo) a knock on from porn being everywhere....even drama now has to show sex because apparently we won't watch without it!!

For my own part, never been to a strip bar or visited a brother, I can't see the attraction since the woman you're paying knows you're a "mug punter"....I can't be involved in anything like that unless I think the woman digs me in some way.

Anyway......let's hear from other people with better views

hmm..if my daughter wanted to become a stripper/call girl/escort I would have to wonder where I went wrong. (I don't think that women think, yeah I wanna be a stripper when I grow up) asking why women strip, "college money" or they wanted some quick money. but takes a lot of balls to go on a "stage" and strip for guys. Someone who likes to be an exhibitionist is one thing the stripper jokes about , but you do have to wonder inside the psyche that is making them do this. I thought at one time that women who did this had something wrong at home, were runaways, or truly had the tools of the trade and had no other options. (I once met a woman who was naturally a voluptuous woman who was suggested to do this and she (as far as I know) is still doing it. (All of us are good at something, right? ;)) but then again if you watch the show Cathouse on HBO, they glorify prostitution because its every man and woman's fantasy; what having sex with a prostitute? The prices of having half an hour with a prostitute is insane!!!! So, if my daughter was found doing that, I would have to look what I did to bring her to that point...

First point, it's not only men who feed the machine of the sex trade. Although I'm not a frequent attender of strip clubs, the last few times I have gone to one with friends I've found there were far more women in the place than men. It's VERY trendy for gaggles of girls to go to the strip bars after a night of drinking and dancing in nighhtclubs. And with porn being a multi-brillion dollar industry world-wide, it's clear that it's not ALL about men whacking off in front of the DVD or computer. There are huge amounts of couples-designed porn and sex products in the marketplace, and I think it's pretty fair to say that women, in general, are becoming more and more open about their sexuality and taking advantage of the plethora of kink that's out there.

Second, it's hard to say how I'd react to the "daughter" scenario - not having a daughter. But I can say that I would probably be OK with it IF she was intelligent enough to understand all that she was getting into and the pros and cons. I think, in some cases, women end up in sex-related businesses because they are using their intellect AS WELL AS their bodies. However, there are certainly many who are clueless and are victimized by the whole process as well.

Negative effect on women? Again - my perspective as a man may not be the best vantage point, but I say no. Many women will tell you they find embracing their sexuality to be empowering. You could also argue that for every women flashing her tits, there's many more times that who are succeeding in business, education, politics etc and that acts as a sort of balance.

I think that it should be a person's choice to do it. I mean a job in one of these industires probably pays a lot so the women in them are able to earn a lot and that's fine as far as I'm concerened because they are only trying to provide.

I don't think they should be judged for it or cast in a negative light in society.

Same with a guy who watches porn. I mean I will gladly admit I watch porn, as do many men (and women, although on a lesser scale) and there's nothing wrong with that (if of course it's legal porn).

I think you are forgetting three facts:

Men strip also.
Men are also in pornos.
And men also sell themselves for sex.

Women are just better at all three of the above. :D

So true, and yet rarely do you hear anyone pose the question "How would you react if your SON did this" or "is this degrading to men?"

Life has choices. To each his own. I see nothing wrong with any of it as long as kids aren't involved. It's human nature and we are human. Some of the loudest critics are the biggest hypocrites.

My thoughts exactly, also... people need to keep in mind, the people in these lifestyles "chose it". If it works for them, it works.

Well...honestly if men are silly enough to give their money to women for doing basically nothing, then women should be smart enough to take it. Especially if it means the difference between feeding your child or not. Paying your rent or not. As for the hopes of something more, as a general rule, men know going into a strip joint that there is NOTHING more. You touch the girls, you lose your fingers. End of story. Whether or not they hope is not the dancer's concern.

Porn stars making big bucks off of men wanting to watch them do whatever? Hookers getting money for providing sex?

If two consenting adults want to have sex for money (or food or rent or clothes or whatever), then why should anyone else be able to tell them no? If they want to do it for cameras, who cares? As long as they are CONSENTING and ADULTS, I fail to see why this is an issue the government needs to get involved in.

Do you feel any of these trades have a negative affect on women in society?

Sure, some women. Other women, no. Same as any industry. Some women are negatively affected by being nurses or teachers or chefs.

If you're ok with it, how would you feel if your daughter went into one of these trades? Would you be supportive and proud they're using their body, instead of their intellect, for money?

Ultimately, I want Soleil to be happy. I want her needs met and I want her to not have any harder of a life than she needs to. I don't want her to struggle the way I did when she was a toddler. I would hope that she would find happiness and have her needs met in a conventional way, but if the difference between her being happy and her being unhappy is that she works as a stripper, then I would prefer she work as a stripper. Obviously though as her mother I don't want anyone looking at her body or fantasising about her...but what I want more than that is her happiness. (That said, please let her be a doctor or a teacher or a nurse!)

I think it's okay because men are willing to pay and women are willing to do it. I refer back to my consenting adult theory.

I've heard a few say they should do it because they can. Do you think people should sell drugs, steal, and kill because they can, and because it pays well? They need to feed their children too after all.

The difference here being that one of your examples is legal and the other is not. When a woman chooses to strip and a man chooses to pay her, nobody gets hurt. When someone kills or sells drugs, someone gets hurt.

I lived in Nevada where prostitution is legal (except clark county which is where Las Vegas is). It is done discreetly. I lived within 5 miles of a "bunny club" but never once so much as saw the front door as I passed by. High fences to protect innocent eyes from even the sight of the door to a bordello.
To each his own.

I don't see stripping as anything horribly wrong. Would I want my daughter doing it? Hell no. But hey, if a woman wants to use her resources to make cash then....go ahead.

I think prostitution should be legalized. I think rape cases would go down because of it, actually.

I can SEE how women becoming loose with their sexuality can be a detriment to society. However, I don't think that a minority of women stripping will collapse civilization.

Not to mention STIs, unwanted pregnancies, incidences of violence against prostitutes, pimpage, and underage prostitution. If prostitution was legal and regulated, it could be improved 1000s of per cents. Mandatory condom use, mandatory birth control, mandatory STI checks, metal detectors, prepayment, bouncers, proof of age requirements, clean facilities...what's wrong with any of these things??

Yeah if it were regulated it wouldn't be a problem.

Free police from prostitution sting time, marijuana bust time....legalize both, then we might catch a few real criminals.
Our nation has its proverbial head up its ass. Two simple things that would save this country so much money it is not funny.

We are really a bunch of twisted folks. We can not let a boob be shown on tv but it is ok to show dismembered or burnt bodies.

We don't properly deal with drunk drivers yet we go after pot usage.

When are we going to wake up

I don't have much to add to this thread as my own feelings on the subject have been covered in several posts.

I take no issue with the sex trade per se, only I wish it was legal and therefore regulated to insure the safety and health of all workers. Then, it would be taxed and we wouldn't spend law enforcement dollars on general prostitution sweeps and could focus on illegal sexual activities like child porn and sexual enslavement.
