The Left Wing vs Right Wing World (INFOGRAPHIC)

Sorry. One of the things I love most about my country is that we don't beat our citizens, or cut off their hands, or otherwise abuse them under the guise of "deterrance". I'm not swayable on that topic.

So in your opinion jail is not supposed to be a deterrent. If that's the case you are the only person on tha planet that thinks so.

The cutting off of the hands comment being used in this discussion is ridiculous. Nobody suggests you turn the USA into another Arabian country. Now go back to my statement and show me why caning wouldn't work. If you tell me it's barbaric I'll tell you so is throwing someone in solitary confinement for weeks, months or even years. You're a smart guy so come up with something better than that.

Don't put fucking words in my mouth if you want to debate with me. You take far too much liberty attempting to interpret and extrapolate what people are saying.

Where exactly did I say that jail is not supposed to be a deterrent? Cutting off of hands IS TOTALLY relevant because the discussion was about the US's position on human rights vs other countries in the world. THAT is what we were discussing in this thread.

On your point, we would never use caning in the US because we have a fundamental belief that physically inflicting pain is not an acceptable form of punishment. That belief has evolved over time and now applies even to our enforcement of the death penalty with the advent of lethal injection - designed to cause a painless death - and even down to not allowing children to be paddled in schools. Do I agree with all of this? Not completely. But I can say with certainty that the American Public would never support the idea of physical beatings as a punshment. Is prison, or more specifically solitary confinement, an unpleasant and difficult thing to endure? Absolutely. I don't oppose the idea of punishment altogether, but causing physical bodily harm crosses a line that I and the majority of my countrymen won't get behind.

I waited to hear all your arguements. Now this puts the nail on the coffin. Look at my thread which I posted abt 8 months ago with gruesome pics of waterboarding and torture of prisoners.

None of whom are US citizens, prisoners of our justice system, or even enemy combatants covered by the provisions of the Geneva Conventions. It was also done as part of an interrogation, NOT as a punishment for a crime - which is a very distinct difference.

Nice try, but not comparable.

I had a nice long reply ready to post and decided against it because I really don't want to get personal with you. Your just not worth the effort. The bottom line as I see it is if someone doesn't agree with you you get your back up against the wall and come out swinging. Your posts have shown that quite clearly to me. Toodles............

And for the record, if you REALLY paid attention to my posts in discussion threads you'd see I never "come out swinging" just because someone offers a different opinion. I DO react that way, however, when I'm misquoted or when people intentionally skew what I've said to bolster their case. Playing dirty gets a tough response.

I'm not playing dirty at all. You strike me as a black and white guy when the world is actually full of shades of gray.
