I know WorldNetDaily isn't a very good source, but the author of this article is Roger Hedgecock, who is a former mayor of San Diego and very bright guy.

Democrats target your 401(k)

Seriously Trekguy, does this kind of fascist crap not scare you? 401K plans have saved (or will save) millions from a retirement of poverty since the government has squandered all of the money that was taken from them over the years.

Yeah, that is crap, alright. If I thought it was real, I wouldn't be scared, I'd be pissed. Like I said, it isn't going to happen. I prefer to deal with reality, not speculation. :D

Well you better do some research--this ACTUALLY HAS BEEN DISCUSSED AND IS A CONSIDERATION. Now the only reason it won't happen is because Democrats don't have the 60 Senators they need to overrule a filabuster. But you need to do some research my friend because this is a very serious consideration by the leaders of your party.

Again--what will they do about social security? How can 3 workers to 1 retiree possibly work when its 11 to 1 now? Have you seen the projections or do you have your head in the sand?

Bush's answer to this was to INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF PRIVATE RETIREMENT. That is to provide some of the money the government is pissing away and let people keep it. To me that's the only thing that will save Social Security.

But you are a fool if you do not think this can happen. If the Democrats have a 60 or more majority, it will happen because its a huge shitload of money and a very easy answer to a huge problem. And seriously, what right do you have to save for your own retirement? Shouldn't you be working for the common good???

In case you missed it this from US News and World Report:

House Democrats recently invited Teresa Ghilarducci, a professor at the New School of Social Research, to testify before a subcommittee on her idea to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of the popular retirement plans. In place of 401(k) plans, she would have workers transfer their dough into government-created "guaranteed retirement accounts" for every worker. The government would deposit $600 (inflation indexed) every year into the GRAs. Each worker would also have to save 5 percent of pay into the accounts, to which the government would pay a measly 3 percent return. Rep. Jim McDermott, a Democrat from Washington and chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee's Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, said that since "the savings rate isn't going up for the investment of $80 billion [in 401(k) tax breaks], we have to start to think about whether or not we want to continue to invest that $80 billion for a policy that's not generating what we now say it should."

Now if Democrats aren't considering it why did they invite a professor to testify before a subcommittee? Are they doing this just for show? To placate the socialist wing of the party (which is basically 80% of the fucking party)

I will look into it.

If the gov't takes my 401(k), and my IRAs... then you may call me a fool.

As far as SS.... this has been looming for a long time, ever since people decided to live longer than age 70. I don't know what the fix is for it.

Hehe, the "common good"... and "share the wealth", and "socialism".... there, just thought I would throw those out there again fer ya. :D Enjoy.

They won't take what you've already got in it (Ii don't think), but they will take away your future contributions. Now to me that's a fucking disaster for the future generation because that will leave my children (and yours) with absolutely nothing to retire on.

People testify all the time before subcommittees, about everything under the sun.

OK, so the gov't is going to say that I can no longer contribute to my own IRA or 401 (k)??? Is that what you are saying? If so, do you actually believe that can/will happen, or are you just trying to stir the pot.... again?

I hate to break the bad news to you but that is exactly what's being discussed. And even more scary is discussion about ending your CURRENT plan.

Just because a possible scenario is discussed in a subcommittee, doesn't mean it is going to happen. Not even close... no way does that happen.

it should not even be open for discussion so the mere fact it is should tell you something.

where there is smoke there is fire

where there is shit there is the stench of socialist democrats

Anything and everything is open for discussion. Who do you want to put in charge of deciding who gets listened to??

After what has (really) happened over the last eight years, the fact that some of you are in a wide-eyed panic about some subcommittee testimony is absolutely hilarious.

again a liberal defends the indefensible and falls back on the last 8 years bull shit.

wonder how many years you will use the last 8 as an excuse

next you will say that means I am defending the last 8 years. which I can't.

keep them blinders on and don't forget to close the door on the way out if you are the last one.
