Social Economical problems that stem from gangs

Hey, some do, because of pride. Some subscribe to the train of thought that they are dissing their 'hood's brothers and sisters, if they leave. Their fear of their peers thinking any less of them for doing something to better their lives is enough to keep them there. Sounds crazy, but it keeps them safe, number one, and two, they keep the "power" they have in the 'hood. Outside of the 'hood, they are regarding as uneducated low lifes. It's almost impossible to jump outside of this shell.

I think that has to do more with the fact that they will probably be killed or beaten if they try to leave. That also keeps them in poverty, the fact that once you're in, YOU'RE IN.

Its common sense that not all whites are born into great lives. BUT, if you are white, you have several advantages over minorities in American society. Its more of a class thing than a skin color issue. Class is the ultimate divide in societies.

Don't know how it works in America but we've had problems over here with mainly white gangs too. In the 70s and 80s, especially during the Thatcher years, football hooliganism was a big problem, mainly amongst white deprived people with no hope of a job ect who lived for the weekend and fighting each other.

A lot of times, poor urban kids don't have the resources to find a way out. It is a rare individual who can persist when all they get is rejection after rejection. There are those that are jealouos that some might have a chance to chage their circumstances, and try to sabatoge it.
Here in the US, getting called and "Uncle Tom" is still a very powerful deterrent to "getting out" of the hood. So many don't
Schools are so bad that classrooms have to share a single textbook. Opporitunity is more difficult to come by.
When you are working at some fast food place everyday after school getting minimum wage and your friends and school mates are getting hundreds of dollars a day selling drugs, its hard to persist.

The saddest part is that these gangs don't use the illicit money to improve the 'hood.

I think you need to open your mind to ALL ways of life.

Your life growing up, was your parents "way of life." They did what they knew. Did they make perfect decisions to create a perfect childhood for you? (I'm guessing not, from the sarcasm). Ghetto residents...a lot of them do what THEY know. It's jumping out of one's shell, (way of life), that is truly hardest, because it's jumping into another life, and in many instances, there are consequences to this.

"Stuck in a rut" Ever heard this term? Also, you keep stating everyone has choices in life; why did you chose the life you have? The job you have? Wouldn't you just prefer to be Bill Gates, or any other rich man who possesses power and an enormous IQ?

I know people that have to stay on welfare and medaid because if they get a job, their kids won't have any health care. Besides, the day care costs are crippling.

If the government offered day care assistance, a tax credit, as well as guaranteed health insurance, they would be able to break out of the run.

And point being? So because people are stupid, that gives them...what right?

If it was that easy to just choose to be rich there wouldn't be poverty. its not so simple as just waking up one day and snapping your fingers and making it happen. SOOOOO many factors are involved.

You also have to take into account that a lot of these kids are exposed to emotionally crippling scenarios. How well would you deal with life if you witnessed several of your friends or family member's murders? Especially say, if one of them was/were your parent(s)?

What about if your parents didn't give two shits that you were born anyway, and more than frequently subjected you to a life of taking care of yourself, starting at age 5? Complete with living conditions that include roast infested, filthy housing? What if they left you at your little age, to scrounge for food, and possibly look after your filthy diaper wearing siblings, while they went off to look for their next crack hit? Next sex partner to screw for drugs?

What if your parent(s) had not one bit of patience, because they were doped up, or coming down, and they beat you senseless because you happened to walk in on them screwing someone/taking a hit/anything? ETC ETC ETC...

What sort of life tools are you expected to possess when you grow up like this? Many make it out, MOST don't...
