Why would you need a European history month when most of the history taught is about European history including the legacy of their colonies?
Now I cannot speak for public school but if your son knows so much about the civil rights movement then isn't he getting a proper education in American history?
Does he also have an equal idea of who George Washington and Lincoln are?

My point was simple, there is more emphasis on African American culture now than there has ever been, heck the country is more a melting pot than it ever has been, look at your surroundings Gi Gi.

Well then you adjust the curriculum, you don't polarize it.

That is the issue I have with the leftist attitude sometimes, and Ron I mean no disrespect at all, you know I respect you, but you fix the system, to don't always have to add or subtract, you fix.

And here is why, let us say, my childrens school, heck it's 99.995% caucasian, it is, I do not control it, it just is the fact, should we cater all the education towards caucasian issues? Talk only about caucasian leaders and landmarks in American history?

Wait, you cannot do that....That would be bigotry:unsure:
we practically do that already.

Really, so if I (or any other white person) wanted to start an all white school .. what exactly do you think would happen? Or how about a white person suggests that their be an all black school?

Holy Lord ww3 would occur.
This isn't an all black school, whites can attend. its just that its a PRIVATE school, that OFFERS (optional) a more Afrocentric curriculum.

Are you against catholic schools? Episcopalian schools? Jewish schools? They're all along the same idea.

They already have those type schools .. we have several here in Birmingham .. Stillman College for one. I still don't think it's right though. They fought tooth and nail to get away from being segregated .. only to re-segregate themselves .. doesn't make sense to me.

Unless it was to just make a point .. get what they wanted, then go right back to how it was .. on their own terms. And if that's the case .. then it's pretty hypocritical imo.

I do not think Martin Luther King, Jr would be impressed.

Why the hell would they want it to go back to those times?

This in no way segregation. Whites can go, and its totally OPTIONAL.

lol .. it's optional for them to go to white schools too .. yet they fought very hard in order to do so, although now it seems that they think they are "so bad" that they need their own schools. lol

I didn't say they wanted to go back to those times, did I?

Thats not their reasoning behind them. These schools are in heavily black populated areas. It only makes sense to have a curriculum based on their culture.

This may come off wrong, but I don't know how else to get my point across without just saying it .. but their "culture" is churning out many "Students" who can't read, write, speak, or many other functions "adults" should be able to perform.

I have several black teachers and several white teachers, and a couple asian teachers at my college that teach my classes fairly regularly (because of my program) .. I'll let you guess which teachers are more easily understood .. as far as speaking proper english goes.

We're (the class) all constantly having to ask them to repeat what they said .. because we can't make out what they are saying because their speech is so heavily laden with (I dunno what other word to use here, so keep tha tin mind) ebonics.

That has to do more with social issues than anything. Their culture is very rich and interesting. I'm talking about ALL of their culture, from Africa to the civil rights movement.

Are you saying you cannot understand black people as well because the english is different?

It's difficult to discuss this from an American/Canadian perspective, as I am not so familiar with the race/cultural issues in your countries.

However, in regards to Australia, I don't believe in encouraging cultural differences, instead, I believe in integration.

In this case? Rather than having this issue even come up, I would rather see a single schooling curriculum for the entire country, that was seen as appropriate for all represented cultures.

You would be called a racist in the US for that attitude.

Hmm...I see your point, got to admit it annoys the fuck out of me when I can't understand people on the phone. However, if the're teaching kids in school who can generally understand the accent what's the problem? Anyway, when I was at school I had to sit through lessons taken by broad Geordies, Brummies, Scots, Mancs, Scousers and Welsh which were hard to understand too. What's the difference other than they come from the same country? The stats (over here at least) prove these schools produce better exam results and they don't produce kids growing up sticking with their own only or growing into big racists, so what's the problem?

It's complicated but Australia is a different culture. I was shocked over there with how widespread racism is. I think that probably is best there right now to gradually overcome this problem first.

You people are so spolied! Try relying on lip reading to understand people when they talk to you. It isn't easy! People move their lips in many different way. I can have my dad say "Gina loves chocolate" and understand but my neighbor can say the same thing in English and I not understand at all.
You people have better forms of communication then I ever will but you complain about variations in the language.
GET OVER IT!!

I understand. There is racism no matter where you go but not all issues of culture or immigration are related to racism.
