Put me in charge of the school
Easy enough
Boys will dress as boys and girls will dress as girls for graduation....Nice easy labels

I've found working with some organizations that when you start creating rules and procedures, things that seemed simple didn't become so simple anymore, and for some reason, it seemed impossible to come out with procedures that covered everything that popped up.

Since these are nice easy labels, I figure it should be so hard for you to list these rules for dress code for graduation. Mind doing so? Wait a minute... is this dress code for the school graduation only or for the entire year?

Unisex full-length robes, like they seem to have in movies every time someone graduates.

Problem solved. You can barely tell if it's human in those things, let alone gender.

So then someone could wear ANYTHING they wanted to under the robes?

This is where "stuff" can pop up. Agreed, a standard cap and robe will make it hard to to differentiate between sexes, but then you have hair, make-up and shoes to deal with.

Ultimately I don't see what the big deal is with a boy wanting to dress like a girl (as long as he's sincere about it and doesn't want to look like the Joker). You probably have more disruptions and sideshows by unruly family/friends who attend the graduation.

On a side note, was anymore information posted by Dana on this subject, or perhaps was this just someone pissed off making a half ass comment on face book?

Hair above the collar? Our school only requires that it be a color normally accepted as human hair color. Most of our guys cut their hair really short anyway, but others let it grow down to the middle of their back.

The hair above the collar thing is a common rule. I don't think schools should care about hair color either, nor what someone chooses to wear, as long as it's appropriate. And by 'appropriate' I mean not obscene...things like revealing clothing or shirts with bad language.

Yup. I wish the rule makers would ask that question when they're making them. It would make it a lot easier on the rule enforcers.

That is true

Also if a rule is there then it should be followed until overturned if it is unreasonable.

Not sure about the school in question or the one you work at ACC but I know for a fact when my kids went to high school the parents and the kids had to sign a document that they would abide by the rules.

I would much prefer a strict guideline that is clear rather than to have it open for interpretation. A graduation is not a sideshow. Yet there are some that will relish the opportunity to do so. When I graduated we did so at a magnificent auditorium. Kids were rolling booze bottles down the aisle and a few were making a circus out of the ceremony when on stage. Thanks to those free spirits we were banned from having graduation there again.

Tis a splippery slope IMO. In the case being discussed I would allow it only if he had a history of cross dressing. And I would not allow exceptions for anybody that did not dress like that routinely.

Wouldnt it have been much easier to just dress according to the rules for graduation?...Rather than cause a big fuss.
