A person online is in disbelief because they wouldn't let a kid she knows walk dressed as a woman. What are your thoughts? Personally I don't think it's hurting anyone BUT it is a public event and the school has every right to enforce a dress code. It amounts to the same as someone walking in a clown suit. It's appropriate on your own personal time.

If it was one of the school jocks playing a prank at the expense of the school, no. If it is a genuine person wanting to be recognised for what they see themselves to be, why not?

Do we know if the kid has ever been allowed to cross-dress in school before? If they have then it seems unfair to decide it's suddenly not appropriate, but if they've always enforced the dress code up till now then I guess it makes sense.

Who cares? Like KD says, if he is a genuine person wanting to be recognized for what he see's himself to be, then why not.

It's time for all the conservo-religo-bots of the world to get over themselves and live and let live.

That pretty much leaves it up to the student...besides only the student knows his true intent.

The kid should be allowed to wear whatever they want. It isn't effecting anyone.

There was a student I went to high school with who liked being creative with his outfits. One day he'd dress in a suit, the next he'd dress like a hippie. It amazed me how much teachers bitched about it instead of just minding their own business. Teachers made degrading comments towards him because he acted different and didn't blindly follow the crowd.

this is true but we're talking about rural northern Maine... Religion still rules for a lot or fuckwits here especially those of the older generation.

The geriatrics should step aside and give the younger generation some credit for their own self-determination.It's prudent to remember that the younger generation will be the ones who look after you once you start falling to bits.

This is very true. But this will only come to fruition if we get these people out of positions such as these and get the ripe minded individuals in these places.

We had our HS graduation last night. The ladies had the option of wearing a shirt & tie if they didn't want to wear the odd frilly collar that came with the girls' robes. Nobody requested, so far as I know, but I'm pretty sure no boy would have been allowed to wear the collar and pumps.

I'm with Kakapo. If it's not meant as a joke, then allowing it would do more good than harm. Hell, the vast majority wouldn't even notice.
