Sex at 14.

I voted no. I think it should be the age of 15 or 16 at least. Because by this age, we've already started...doing things...and thinking way too much about that. Hell, I went to a movie and a football game with my friend Jessi last night, and all night, even in the car, she was biting my shoulder

ok I have to give my 0.02 here. Im not sure how I missed this thread this long but here it goes anyway.
I had my son when I was 2 weeks from turning 15, yes I was a wild child or what ever you may want to call it, and yes I did know about birth control I actually asked my parents if I could go on the pill, and my dad said No that will just give you all the more reason to do something you shouldnt be doing in the first place. Could we have used a condom yes, did we? No obviously not. Having my son was one of the best things that happened to me yes I graduated high school, and went to college and have a great job, and boy did I have to grow up fast. My parents were great though without them I could not have done it.
But there is alot of things I missed out on, growing up and acting like a goofy teen,hanging with friends,There are also things that I can see now that I am older and have another child, that I definitly appreciate more when she does them. I missed being a kid and my son missed out on alot of the things that you just gain with age that make you a good parent, my son and I basically grew up together. So do I say 14 year old sex is good no but yes it happens, and if it does it doesnt always have to turn out bad.

I applaud you for doing the best you could with the cards that life delt you. I have a lot of resepct for girls that given the situation still manage to accomplish the things that you have. Unfortunatly, I see many more girls turn out as I mentioned above and truely it's sad, unfortunate and an unnecessary burden on our sociaty

I'd like to congratulate you on your honesty and opinion. I don't agree that your son has missed out on anything really though, no ones perfect, my parents were far from perfect but they gave me love, good values and life experience which although we were very poor at times, I wouldn't change for anything pysical.

Well I don't think she wanted to be pregnant judging by the fact she aborted all three babies! I can only assume that she was under presure from her boyfriend not to use a condom, was Cathoilc or was several sandwiches short of a picnic...or may be any combination of the above!

Maybe she did want to be pregnant. Maybe it was her parents that forced her to have all those abortions. Under 18, perhaps they decided for her, since legally she is their responsiblity. I know it doesn't sit right, but it happens.

without decent education about the matter, there will be unwanted pregnancy no matter what the age, sex education was insanely poor where i am and that just isn't good enough. I believe that that is the reason i know six teenage mothers and an additional 2 mothers to be, i myself admit that i started at 14 with next to no knowledge in the subject, i could have easily ended up like them. So i don't think it matters what age sex should start, but proper education lessons really are needed

You seem to have done a damn good job. My sister had her first at 15, and at 20, she has three now. She still lives with my mom, and though my mom is doing the best she can to help, my sister could be trying way harder than she is. She could learn a thing or two from you. You are a damn good role model for your son, Audra.

We're 15 year olds, we smoke(Many different things besides cigarettes), we drink, we have sex, an age limit won't change anything, otherwise we would do this stuff already.

either you are serious, and misinformed - which does not seem to be an option really - or you are joking, which seems to be obvious here.

illegalizing something will just make some people just want to do such an illegal action more, just because they might be "rebelling against the system" or whatever. and there are those that just do it, cuz their friends are; and there are those who are those friends.

so, really, dropping the age, or raising it really will not do much. except make taxpayers pay more, to keep up with the police station's new budgeting.

Anyway, I don't know that raising the age will really affect anything. Kids'll do it, and it's mostly our job to keep them informed about the safer ways to do it, and the consequences (and benefits, I suppose -- can't keep it all bad) of having sex. Education makes all the difference.

Good point. I see where setting a minimum age does in some ways at least offer some protection to young impressionable teens from preditors. A 14 year old knows if a 40 year old tries to pick them up it's illegal. Prehaps in some ways it protects them from being taken advantage of by these sickos.

It has nothing to do with age but the individual's maturity level. Some kids may be mature enough to have sex at a young age. Others can't handle the situation properly (not using protection, involvement of drugs, etc). I'll say though that I will be 18 in a little over four months and I have not had sex.
