Because what we're talking about here isn't about your family. It's about your faith in Him. Don't lose heart. That's the lesson.

Yeah, remember the Bible story of Job who was a really good bloke so God diseased him, killed all his family and destroyed all his posessions to test him. I guess the lesson there is that God is an evil bastard if you're loyal to him and does sick things to satisfy his own paranoia!

He's testing your faith, Suzie. Keep trying...

I'm disappointed in your answer. This is the typical answer when someone brings stuff like this up. I want no part of any God who makes children or anyone ill to "test" your faith. Thats just crazy and a cop-out response. Its said when priests and religious people have no response for the child who has never committed a sin is stricken with leukemia or some other life threatening illness.

I believe we are part of an alien race put here as a sort of experiment. Humans didn't build those pyramids alone.

Your relationship with God is a one-on-one relationship that no one controls but you. God doesn't 'make' children ill. God doesn't 'make' anything happen. It happens. How we react to what happens is what matters because that is what we control. And that is why I believe it's a test of our faith when we something 'bad' happens.

And that answer shouldn't disappoint you because you don't believe we were created by God. If we weren't created by Him, then how can we have a relationship with Him, right?

hmmm... Ive prayed all my life for my familys health. (Which IMO is the best prayer someone can pray about). My parents were in a bad motorcycle accident... and there goes that prayer. My brothers practically in a wheelchair from a disease. So, I kinda stopped praying after he didnt answer those.
I'm really sorry for you and your family's hardships Suzie, truly I am.

From what I understand, bad things happen in the freedom that comes with the gift of life that has been given unto us.

When bad things happen to any of God's children, God is grieved and suffers with us. Any 'bad thing' that happens is not the last word though thanks to Christ. God has provided the most deepest form of the last Word. That Word is love (love by His definition, not ours) and eternal life with Him in heaven.

Yes he does. Let me explain... If we are God's children, then he should take care of us as such. If there was a parent of two children watching them fight over a toy and one child picks up a brick to smash the other one over the head and you do nothing to stop it, you are MORE to blame than the child that's doing it. You are the parent that knows better, so you keep the children in line and protect them. As a parent looking over the child, if you were all powerful like God, and you had the power to prevent that child from getting terminally ill and you didn't, then you effectively made the child ill. There is no excuse for not saving every person with your unlimited power.

It must not be bad OR God does the same things, too. Because after all, "he/she/it" supposedly created man in the image of him. And supposedly created EVERYTHING!
So if God exists, God is responsible for all the death, pain, stealing, conning, violence, perversion and destruction in the world. Not to mention you not winning the lottery or your favorite football team winning.

God made man in his image, but he does not force man to do anything .. he allows man to make his own decisions .. right or wrong.

Just because God doesn't let you win the lotto doens't mean diddly squat. If he let everyone who prayed to win the lotto win ..everyone would get .01244657567889 cents each.

You're not missing anything. There are better science fiction books out there.

This one has people living to be hundreds of years old, a magical flood that kills everyone except those in the magical humongous ark, incest, people killed because they don't believe, people walking on water and turning water into wine, massive oceans parting, (leaving magically dry ground), so people can walk to the other side, people dying and coming back to life.........and so much more.

Well, maybe you might like it, but the layout and writing structure is sloppy.......... :D

God isn't a parent to us .. he is our "father" in a technical term .. like a priest is a father. Someone to turn to when you need help.

Just because you think you need help, doesn't mean that that is the plan. If no one got sick, and no one died .. what would happen then? It's just the way life works. It might suck, and you might not like it .. but that's how it is.

God doesn't intervene everytime.

Where did the decisions come from? God had to have made those, too. After all, God made everything, bad and good. God even created Satan.

That is all speculating on if God really ever existed.

"God" is just a belief that has been handed down for centuries; "he/she/it" is not a physical being and did not create anything.

He is the creator of all, he knows all, he sees all... That means that every horrible thing that has ever happened or will happen has been seen by God. He knew the pain that was suffered from every child that was raped and murdered before he ever created this world. Why would anyone create such suffering when they can see it with their own eyes before it ever happens. Before he decided to create this world and everything in it, he knew. Before Adam and eve, he knew... yet he chose to create a world of suffering and pain, and world where by Christian standards the vast majority of every person ever born will suffer an eternity in a burning lake of fire in exchange for a few miserable years on this planet.

Is this what you would create if you were all knowing and all powerful???

I go with the theory shit happens, what the hell?
Its all very well moaning because you prayed to God to win the lottery and for the Dolphins to win but maybe God prefers the Cowboys or something! Do you pray to God and thank him for all the good things, however small that happen to you every day without you even asking? I'm guessing not.

That's a good theory :D Rep!

hmmm... Ive prayed all my life for my familys health. (Which IMO is the best prayer someone can pray about). My parents were in a bad motorcycle accident... and there goes that prayer. My brothers practically in a wheelchair from a disease. So, I kinda stopped praying after he didnt answer those.

I agree. My brother tore open his arm(He was riding a bike by my grandma's van when he was 10, and he gashed his upper arm on a jagged piece of metal), his first girlfriend that seemed to really love him dumped him because he had no money for about a week, he broke all ten fingers on both hands playing football in high school(Not at the same time), broke his leg, broke BOTH ARMS at the SAME TIME(He was at a bar, had no money, worked it out with the manager to go across the street to the ATM. Bouncer didn't know, tackled him, broke his arms, started beating on him. Cops said my brother was at fault). He had part of his finger cut off. And after sticking with my brother through ALL OF THIS, his girlfriend, who said she loved him to death and wanted to marry him, dumped him because she was "depressed" and "wanted time alone". Which is bullshit, because she now has a new boyfriend, asshole. BOTH of my grandmothers died of cancer, my mom and dad smoke constantly RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, despite my efforts to get them to stop, and despite the fact that I don't want cancer from second hand smoke. If God is testing my faith, he's doing a pretty fucked up job of it. I stopped praying long ago. Rep for you.

Yes he does. Let me explain... If we are God's children, then he should take care of us as such. Again, rep for you! That is so true.

When I have spoke to people (who believe in God) about what happened to my mom in the accident (losing her leg). I ask them why they think God would do something like that to such a good person...and their reason behind it is that, my mom could have had some cancer causing disease or something in her leg...and that was Gods way of saving her from it traveling thru the rest of her.
It sounds like a good response to someone that would want someone to believe in him.
My parents have been thru hell and back...and if anyone deserves anything good out of this life...its them. They didnt deserve any of the crap they went thru.

my personal belief is that god wont be condemning everyone to hell, only those that simple refuse to admit that they exist (and killers, crooks and that sort). I admit i don't know why 'shit happens' however i take the stance that i'm too ignorant to understand as to why anyway.
i'v always seen God as someone that can give moral support though the hard times a face, not one that removes them. People do bad things because they think freely, they therefore condemn themselves for punishment. And natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis, Tornados ect are all geographic, i'm kinda guessing that.... these thing happen, and we seem to get in the way of them, i dunno, iv never really thought about that before, maybe that doesn't make scene.
The thing that confuses me a bit tho is negative things people may do due to madness, if some stark raveing loony kills someone, would they be punished in (and if) they have an afterlife? seeing as they dont have any self control.
