Real Football (Soccer to you Yanks) Thread

They were pretty much full strength, but no the actual match doesn't mean anything. It's just a hard match to reach because you have to win either of Europe's cup competitions. There's some concern surely though for Chelsea given how easily their defence was split open very easily. They haven't really been tested thus far this season properly until tonight and were taken apart.

I see thanks
Losing is one thing, being exposed by a team that is not in the same "league" as your competitors is a worry

Barcelona and Real Madrid both register wins in week 3 of La Liga. Real beat Granada 3-0 at the Bernabeu, Ronaldo got a couple in either half and Higuain added a third despite looking slightly offside. Borja Gomez got sent off for a second yellow in the second half, he can claim he only committed two fould all he wants, they were both bookables. Barcelona beat Valencia 1-0, first half was dominated by Barcelona, goal came from Adriano in minute 23 with a really great dynamite shot into the top corner. Game was less dominated by Barca in the second half, more possession than Valencia but struggled to find a way through the stubborn defence. Valencia had chances to equalise but couldn't. Uncomfortable win for Barca in the end, but a win it is, leaves them top of La Liga going into the first international break and with a 100% record, not having totally hit top gear yet.

EDIT : Interesting note from Ronaldo.

"I didn't celebrate my goals because I'm unhappy with some people. They're in the club & know who they are"

Apparently he's had a meeting last week with Florentino Perez (the Real president) and told him he's not happy. This could implode. Watch this space.

Breathless, absolutely breathless game between Real Madrid and Man City. Real won 3-2 in the end (about a fair result). Real dominated the first half with no reward. Dzeko gave City the lead in the 68th minute after a breakaway from Toure. Marcelo hit the equaliser for Real before City seemingly won it through an own goal from Alonso from a Kolarov free kick. However Karim Benzema hit a fantastic equaliser. Ronaldo scored a fantastic winner for Real. There's a bit for City to take from this game, but it's a very harsh lesson to learn from. Real deserved to win overall though. This could have been much more than 3-2. 35 shots to 10.

Won our opening Champions League game with a 1-0 win over Galatasaray at home. If ever a game was destined to end 1-0, this was it. After Michael Carrick had put us in front after 8 minutes it seemed the floodgates would open, but as that followed a penalty appeal was ignored for Galatasaray it showed the Turks weren't here to just make up the numbers, and indeed struck the bar shortly after Carrick's goal. We might have had a penalty of our own when Valencia's cross was handled by Eboue, but appeals weren't major. We did get a penalty in the second half which, had it gone in, would have nicely topped off a good start to the second half, however Nani chose to continue the latest trend we've picked up and contrived to hit a weak penalty straight at the keeper. We should have had a second penalty when Valencia was tripped later on. Hernandez might have made it 2-0 and safe late on. But in the end a 1-0 win is what we got. It's a win, nothing more.

In other results Chelsea lose a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home to Juventus, Barcelona avoid defeat to Spartak Moscow after going 2-1 down in the second half to win 3-2 thanks to a Messi double.

Beat Newcastle 2-1 in the third round of the League Cup. Rested a few players from the weekend including a young defence and a returning Fletcher and Rooney. After a first half where plenty of chances were created, Anderson escaped the Gosling shackles and fired in a beauty from 20 yards. Cleverley made it 2-0 with a nice finish from the edge of the area after earlier missing a sitter. Newcastle though were still in the game and got back into it with a goal from Papiss Cisse. After that they pushed for the equaliser and we had to defend well. In the end we held out and progress. Plus points tonight were the young defence looking bright, Fletcher getting a full 90 minutes, Rooney got 70 minutes and should be okay for Saturday.

Got hammered out 4-1 by Wigan. Not too worried though, big Sam dosen't seem to take the League cup seriously and was playing a weakened team as usual. Premiership survival is the main thing. See most of the Wigan fans came dressed as seats, as usual! :D

John Terry been found guilty of racism and given a 4 match ban, not sure why it was so lenient compared to Suarez, especially after his hissy fit quitting the England team when by rights the FA shouldn't have let him play for them while this was going on anyway.
